Low wc in post kidney transplant

My son is 6mos post kidney transplant. He is 42yrs old. Up until today his health has been great. He had blood work today and was told his wc are very low and they told him he will need 3 inj over the next 3 days and to avoid crowds or a lot of people during this time. We are concerned because he feels fine. Is this somewhat normal?

Yes. I did the same my wbc count went really low almost less than 1% 3 series of shots was prescribed to me and 2 days later my wbc went back up. Mild side effects expected. Like joint pains .

Yes. The same thing happened to me at 5 months the culprit was my myfortic dose was to high. I had to give myself 3 injections also and my count went back up , they waited a month and just started me back on a very low dose of myfortic.

Thank you Sonnyboy1958. Both you and charlen24 have reassured me. His team have already readjusted some meds this is day 2 of injections. He had no symptoms, wouldn't have known anything was amiss but for his regular blood work. His wbc was 1.3.

From what I have learned through my recovery process, my transplant team has been effective in following my labs and adjusting my medications. I at times feel blah but continue to stay positive. I get these bouts of sweat that come on sudden and it’s annoying. A few bouts of vomiting every so often but still I continue to stay positive! When my wbc went low, medications were adjusted and wbc went up! So hang in there!

This just happened to me last week. I felt totally normal. After the injection, my count went up and everything is fine. Only took a few days. Also, they cut back on my myfortic.

I have been going through this for a year and a half. Has he been tested for CMV? It is a virus that can come with the donated kidney. His team should know. The Valcyte they give you the first six months can drive the wbc down.
