Hi all, My husband is due to be activated on the transplant list at the end of this month. It would be great to hear from anyone who has been though the same situation. He is a type 1 diabetic with stage 4 kidney failure and will hopefully receive a pancreas and a kidney... scary but exciting times. Many thanks

SPK transplant- what to expect?
Hi, I'm in UK
I had my NFK transplant in 2016. I was lucky only on the list for 5mnth, and it was my first call out.
I found the wait for the op the longest, you get told to get to hospital asap, then I felt I was Hanging around for hrs before I went down. But they do have to do lots of checks.
I remember been in HDU for a while and hilusinating with the drugs. My family thought it was hilarious.
The op went well , but I ce down with Peronists. I won't lie The pain was terrible but I had a nurse who reviewed pain control daily
. Don't worry I survived it all
You just got to push yourself to get going afterwards. I went back to work 6 mnth later full time as a carer
The best thing was to be able to do things I couldn't do before my transplants. Wishing you the best and a happy new life . X
