Gum growth after kidney transplant

Hi, I had a kidney transplant over 2 years ago and recently my gums seem seem to be overtaking my teeth and are quite uncomfortable and bleeding. Is this down to taking prednisolone daily as a steroid?

Please tell me more about your gum problem.

I just had the second part of a tooth implant which involved surgery. The "screw" was surgically inserted. About a week later I have had severe pain an aching around that area. Two days ago I had the stitches removed and the doctor, an implant specialist, said that everything looks excellent. I go back in 1 week but in the meantime the aching continues but to a lesser degree.

I will celebrate my 1 year transplant in 9 days and everything else is going well. I don't know IF this could be related to my daily dose of meds ,Tacro 5mg and 5mg Prednisone.

Hi, my Dentist said it was more likely to be caused by BP meds than steroids, my renal consultant said it’s unlikely but she is looking into it and will change from amlodopine if necessary.

Cyclosporine is known to cause hypertrophy of the gums.

My gum problems are definitely linked to being on cyscolsporin for over 20yrs.....

Hi, I know that swelling gums is a side effect of ciclosporin. I don't think that steroids cause this.

Hi there, are you taking ciclosporin as this is a known side effect?

No, I was taking amlodopine which has now been stopped and my gums have returned to normal.
