I've had T for just over a week now. Woke up one morning to find a constant hissing in my ears which has continued ever since. The first 3 or 4 days really had me depressed probably because I couldn't stop focusing on the hissing. My wife says I tend to do that with things.I am on BP tablets, lowest dose, and noticed my BP had been increasing since I last had in readings to my GP in September, are showing 160/90. Anyway, I had my ears checked for wax etc by an audiologist, who said the were clean and the eardrums looked fine.
I managed to get an appointment with my doctor who checked my ears and BP.
He thinks it may be due to high BP, fingers crossed, and has increased my BP tablets. This is only my 3rd day on the increase.
I've to go back on Jan 8th to update the doc.
My youngest daughter, although being 37 is a constant source of grief for us and in the run up to Christmas was causing some stress for us. I'm hoping that with the increase in BP is the cause and can eventually be overcome.
I'm finding relief when driving or pottering around in the kitchen with the radio on. Trying to focus on other things brings relief for a while but then stupidly I think that's good I haven't heard hissing for a while only then to be aware of it again. I manage to fall asleep at night but if I wake up for the toilet etc it's a struggle to get back to sleep.
I've got a couple of mobile apps for tinnitus sounds that I use, not to any great effect unless I really turn up the volume.
Any help and suggestions would be much appreciated.

HiThe fact that you don't hear it if busy and can fall asleep is great. When I first got it I heard it constantly. You have a good chance that over time you will not notice it most of the time.
I use sleep phones at night with nature sounds and medication to get to sleep.
As already stated look up Tinnitus UK they have some very useful info.
Agree with all the above.Additionally mine has been worse recently higher with increased stress and higher BP so I think there is a link.
When T is constant and loud I have felt suicidal so feeling low is understandable. It's great you've got measures in place that help, ive found T doesn't go but the loudest periods are arent endless but quite short fortunately.
Hi, things will get easier. As for sleep, I really struggled at first so my GP gave me a very low dose of an antidepressant (which I was concerned about) but after a short while it helped tremendously and now I only take 1 a week.
Of course with any medication, the GP knows best. As Happyrosie said, Tinnitus UK is a valuable source of information and you may find online/in person support groups in your area.
Its great that you are finding relief from it. Its a really good sign that all will be well for you. In all probability once you get answers on your BP tests and things calm down after Christmas that your Tinnitus will fade away or worst case will stick around but be very manageable for you.
Keep trying top focus on other sounds in your environment rather than the Tinnitus and if struggling to sleep remember its the anxious response keeping you awake so there will be plenty of things you could try to overcome that.
Sound apps can be helpful maybe open a window or turn on a fan as a more natural option and if all else fails for me I try and put something relaxing on TV and eventually i normally fall asleep.
Tinnitus loves attention so please try and limit this where you can and let your body get bored of it. You will find that eventually you will start to focus on other sounds in your area and Tinnitus will take a back seat.
hello there, so sorry to hear about your T! I’ve had it for years and I’ve tried a lot of things but nothing has helped. I’m noticing here lately that there are a lot of articles on T. I pray that someone will find a cure. Wishing you better health with your T.
