Pulsatile tinnitus advice

Hi I've had pulsatile tinnitus in my left ear since late 2019. I had a brain scan late 2020 and all clear, hearing fine. They mentioned giving me a neck scan but they then signed me off after brain scan was OK. I've now asked to be re referred as I suffer from freezing coldness I.e my feet are always stone cold, hands, legs and arms are often very cold. If I go out for a 20 min walk even in the summer and them sit down in a cafe etc I start chilling down and my neck and ears are cold. Thyroid and iron levels all normal. I often hear the head beat pulsing in my head or neck as well as ear.

I have an appt at ENT on Monday, hearing ok but I'm looking for advice as thinking of asking for a neck scan this time to check carotid arteries and blood flow there. Does any1 have P.T and suffer from coldness. My heartbeat sometimes is low on rest atm it's OK and my bp is always normal or slightly low. I just want to insist on different tests this time. What else should I get checked. What causes others p.t?

Thanks

That's interesting. I have PT following a cervical injury sustained in April this year and boy! have I been feeling cold this Winter - I mean, feeling much colder than in previous years. You make me think the two might be connected but I can't say I can see why?

Oh well, more research . . .

If you're referring to me yes they can be connected I can open my jaws up real wide on left side sometimes and I can hear it buzzing and I can close it and it stops it's weird but I never had anything wrong with my ears till I started messing with that 1 ear and got it ringing and if I get my mind off basically either goes away or gets so low I can't hear it but if I hear it and I start thinking about it oh yeah I get really depressed

Interesting. I'm thinking it could be a blood flow problem if small vessels damaged but I really don't know.

Well, yes, it could be. I'm not sure how body temperature is regulated but if nerves are damaged or 'throwing errors' or something this could fool the body in to not regulating it's internal temp correctly. Hence, feeling very, very cold a lot of the time.

Hi Jem. Often pulsatile tinnitus occurs because of enhanced stress and anxiety. I've found that taking Ativan 0.5mg under the tongue will quickly lower your stress level and the tinnitus level. Ativan is a Benzo but at the low level of 0.5mg, it is not addictive and does work wonderfully in managing inner ear problems like tinnitus when made worse by stress.

That's very true they stress me out blowing air in my ear got me thinking about that it was stopped up 42 weeks and then it whistled and popped that's when I should have left it alone but instead I go to another ear Doctor and he puts his thumb in there so I'll pump in my ear trying to make me dizzy and that aggravated the nerve and there even more and that second hearing test done me in that totally just aggravated whatever it is inside my ear head and my that's when the rain started, Thank God now I can get real stressed out or go to the dentist to get more than one tooth done and it starts to doing it so yes stress is the big issue and I've noticed that if I get busy and get my mind off of it it goes away

Thanks both. I'll see what they say at Mondays appt. I was hoping to find others who had tests who could advise what else I should ask for. I do notice it gets worse if I'm tired and insomnia is bad for me and also if im on my work's laptop a lot longer the day I work from home as I do a lot more work that day I can get pulsing headaches.Does your p.t ever move to other areas not just the ears like the head or neck.

Thanks

Hi ask at appointment about 'neurological' the chills made me think of this.I have a neurological condition and tinnitus which can be pt. Spent nearly 3 years at ENT department they still could find anything wrong. It was neurological.

Hi Penelope. What kind of neurological problem do you have? I got a brain scan over 3 years ago then they signed me off, so I'm now thinking of asking for a carotid ultrasound to check if anything clogged there. I don't really see how ent helps much. Thanks
