Hi. It will go over time. You just need to fight it in the beginning. It will scare you to start with. I devoloped it 3 months ago. I live with it now. Some days I can't even hear it. See a specialist for your ears and have them tested properly. 2 years ago I had a hearing test for my job. The doctor said my left ear was not as good as my right ear at low pitch levels. I thought no more about it as I still passed the medical. So the doctor was 100% correct as now I have tinnitus in my left ear. I tried every medicine. All a complete waste of money. Even a fan in my room. I'd rather listen to tinnitus than list to a fan running all night. You will get use to it. Stress can be a major factor. Try and relax as much as possible. Hope you get some relief soon. S
thank you your reply has helped - I’ve been reading about relaxing to lessen stress - are hearing tests done on NHS ? Do I need a GP appointment first? Are you sleeping OK now? When you couldn’t hear - how long did that last for?
Hi. I done everything private in my hospital were I live. I don't know much about the NHS procedures. It will quieten down for you over time. I did not use any hear aid or white noise music. I just fought it and learned to cope with it. Stress is a major factor. If your a stressful person try and relax. I hope you get some comfort. It is a horrible health issue. I did not even know what Tinnitus was until I woke up with it. I spent days weeks on Google looking for advice. The best advice I found is learn yourself to deal with it.
Hi Cassie. Ask your GP for a referral to ENT at your local hospital. ENT will check out your ears and refer you on to other depts - including audiology - if need be. This can take time depending on where you live. By the time I got to ENT I was fairly well adjusted to my T . It is a shock at first but you'll soon get used to the sound(s) and may hardly notice them over time. Relaxation, sound therapy and CBT can all be helpful in the early stages. All the best 🙂
Hi Cassie - sorry you are experiencing this, my personal recommendation is to go on You Tube and look up Julian Cowan Hill - he also has an app 'Quieten' and lots of advice and help as well as positive stories of people with T who with his advice have been greatly helped. He had T for many years until he discovered what helped him and then went on to help others as a result. There is a huge amount of scary stuff about T on T forums - lots of negativity - so please avoid - i sent myself down a spiral of depression when i read negative stories, so please try and stay positive, T can be quietened down, it's a challenging symptom to cope with - sadly even ENT/Drs just quote statistics about it rather than pointing people to things that can help (am speaking from experience)
Thank you everyone for advice. Julian Cowan Hill is amazing - I’m fortunate to find him with so many videos out there - sensible advice he gives and positive ideas
