Hello Barbara,

Any comment involving the vaccine is controversial, and I generally avoid discussing it anywhere. Since your question is about T, and T is too serious to ignore, I will respond in as briefly and value free way as I can.

I am fully vaxxed (covid, flue, shingles) - partly because I am also somewhat immunocompromised due to chemo years ago - so the NHS nags and protects me, and my wife worries.

I have had worsening T for more than 20 years, and it is, of course, difficult to attribute any particular cause to that. I do not, however, think that my worsening can be linked, temporally at least, to any vaccine or medication. It just happens.

I had my autumn 'flu and covid yesterday. I will report back if I note any deterioration in my T.

By the way, as posts here go, yours was short and to the point. I write War and Peace sometimes in response to The Lord of the Rings. 🙂

Best wishes

thank you will look.

I almost certainly contracted T from my second AZ. But I have had 3 since ( prob 1 more to come in the next month ) and it hasn't changed my T for the worse or better fwiw

I only have mild Tinnitus, but I had very nasty side effects from both AZ vax 1&2.

I have recently seen a neuro surgeon (not related to Tinnitus) & when I mentioned to him that I am sure my overall symptoms worsened after those vaccines..,he said that had happened to a lot of people. I stopped having Covid vaccinations after 4 jabs.

Thank you ..that’s very interesting..I’ve had all jabs since covid started barring one this June ..my tinnitus is very loud now .

Thank you

I would expect it’s coincidental and it’s just the tinnitus worsening. I’ve had tinnitus since childhood but it started to get worse when I was 6 months pregnant after a flight. Flights don’t usually affect my left ear because of my ear drum hole but honestly who knows why. I doubt it’s to do with the vaccine. Just one of those things maybe

Hello Barbara. I cannot give advice only facts that affected me. One day after a Covid jab in 2022, boom! I developed terrible pulsatile tinnitus. Maybe coincidence maybe not who knows. All I know is I never suffered this debilitating condition before and some American research suggests a possible link with the vaccine I was given. I will continue my flu jabs but will not be having anymore covid jabs. Obviously you must do what’s best for you but I won’t risk my PT getting worse. It’s ruined my retirement and trying to ‘habituate’ to the pulsing in my ear is a daily nightmare. All tests negative for other reasons. Best of luck, and make the right decision for your own health.

Hi Minsky & Barbara, I also have terrible PT that showed up in 2022 after 4 covid jabs & one Covid infection. I have had more tests done than I could have imagined here n the US. Including brain angiograms & venogram. No success in ID-ing the cause. There are 4 clinics in the US that specialize in treating PT specifically. 2 at UCLA San Francisco, Northshore University Hospital/Northwell health in Long Island, New York. (this is where I went earlier this year) Dr. Athos Patsalides is an incredibly brilliant interventional radiologist. But he was not able to help me. Also a clinic in Chicago. & Pennsylvania. I am from UK, but I've lived in the States for many years. If anyone is interested I'll include some web sites for your research:

pennmedicine.org/for-patien...

radiology.ucsf.edu/pulsatil...

athospatsalidesmd.com/conta...

I deeply empathize with all of you who suffer with T & PT. If I ever find a way to alleviate it, I will certainly share it with you all,

Carol (Florida)

Worrying about T makes it worse, so if you worry the vaccine will affect T, then it will, but because of the worry rather than the vaccine itself. In which case, decide based on your level of concern/worry rather than scientific likelihood. Good luck in whatever you chose.

Hello Barbara, the vaccines are always subject to controversy and at the end of the day it is really personal choice. I have chosen not to have the flu and covid vaccines again but that's just me and I know others who have and others who are opting out. Best of luck, you will make the best decision for you.

Hi again. I have tinnutis in one ear which comes and goes but I have throat problems as well so its another thing! Generally Its copeable. I did not notice any difference after the Covid jab but just decided I had enough to cope with so I wouldn't have another jab. Just my decision. Don't think too hard about it, just follow your own instincts, you won't be wrong! Good luck

Prior to COVID I had had bouts of T, usually after a cold or something. My hearing was okay, not great, but nothing that warranted any additional checks etc. However after my first COVID infection and around the time I got it a second time (before the vaccines were available) I started to lose my hearing very quickly.

I have to be honest now looking back (with having experimented with lots of things, (changing diet, relaxation techniques, etc) and gradually getting some measure of normality back (with the help of HA, maskers etc) I think C19 itself probably caused my hearing loss and T. Apparently there are links to Long COVID etc.

I didn't notice anything after vaccines.

Hi, I've had tinnitus for a long time and pulsatile tinnitus for nearly 2 years. I noticed my PT started after an ear infection and a long period of quite intense stress. I had no vaccines in the period leading up to the PT starting. Best wishes.

I have had all my covid/ flu jabs and not noticed any difference to my T . The only reaction I had was when I had the flu and covid together. Felt awful and stayed in bed for 2 days. Now I have them separately a few weeks apart. So sorry for your dilemma. Its not an easy choice. But I do understand as my T worsened after going on statins for 5 days . I refused to take anymore. I said that I'd rather take my chance with raised cholesterol levels. ( have just gone back on a different statin very low dose and its fine)

Hello, I had a similar bad experience with Atorvastatin, which one are you on now please ?

Kellythecat-74 profile image
Kellythecat-74 in reply toModelMetalworker

Hi . am now on Rosuvastatin 5mg ,,, but I had to get my cholesterol down from 7. Managed to get it down to 3. So I can have a low dose statin. What mg atorvastatin were you on? I'm convinced it the strength that causes problems . 2 other people I know on 40mg have Tinnitus . 3 others on 20mg or less dont have it.

ModelMetalworker profile image
ModelMetalworker in reply toKellythecat-74

ok thanks , will look into that, was on 20mg atorvastatin but stopped with severe T.

Kellythecat-74 profile image
Kellythecat-74 in reply toModelMetalworker

oh! that's my theory out the window. Have you got to take another statin ? Did your T stop or quieten down ? mine didn't, but maybe that's because I already had T. Even thought I didn't notice it after 20 years. Its hell having to decide on a catch 22. Maybe do more research, pretty sure I read that some statins can help T and others make it worse . Lots of medications/ vaccines can make T worse.

Hi, I'm 72. I have had the first 2 vaccines, and I believe, one booster. Never got the second because of controversy and I didn't know what to believe. I have never gotten covid. I think it's more because I don't have family and I'm physically more isolated than usual. I do think I'm done with covid shots now that I have tinnitus. I will get a flu shot.

I'm 71 and have had tinnitus for over 30 years. I'm fully vaxxed (flu, covid and shingles) and I've not noticed any difference after any vaccination. Having had Covid before the first vaccination there is no way I would ever want to go through that again.

I have had every vaccine available for everything having spent most of my life in countries that required all sorts of odd things, and every covid shot since they were first offered. Nothing has affected my tinnitus. And you must remember that causation and correlation are very different. The fact that tinnitus starts sometime and most of us cannot pinpoint a cause, does not mean that if you had a covid jab a fortnight ago and then get tinnitus that there is any relationship between the two. Some causations are pretty clear. That for any vaccine is not.

I saw what you wrote and I do get the hissing sometimes. It feels like it's in the middle, in the back. I started the whole thing with 10 days of pulsitile, then nothing for about 3 weeks. Then the regular ringing came. Today I had just had 2 days of quiet, then I had a hot dog, and then the hissing started. I guess it's from the salicylates in the dog. It's coming down a little. It was quite loud

Hi Barbara-C,

I’ve had T for some years now. When coronavirus struck in 2020, (first wave), I took necessary precautions to protect myself and by luck or fluke I got through it. I got myself vaccinated as soon as I could and got the booster etc. April 21, I was infected by the virus and became very ill, the NHS organised an experimental viral treatment and it did help. The only condition for taking these drugs is I had to agree to give regular feedback. Anyway, during this time, my T wasn’t any different and after recovery and further covid vaccines, all flu jabs,(always had flu jabs for years), shingles vaccine, hasn’t made my T any worse, (or better).

It is a very controversial subject and there are many opinions on the subject of covid vaccines. The best bet is to seek medical advice from your doctor, if you’re not sure about the Covid vaccine, as in this case. So much misinformation on the internet and in the media in general. Saying that, some very useful information on the NHS site and NHS app if you have it.

Take care.

Hello Barbara. Just to add my experience among all the others. I developed my tinnitus almost 1 year after my first covid vaccine and 4 months after my first booster so for me there doesn't seem to be any correlation. I have had 2 more boosters since and haven't noticed any sustained difference in my tinnitus other than the occasional spikes that apparently everyone gets. All of my covid shots were Pfizer. Don't know if that makes any difference either. I did contact covid last year and really only had a mild case for about 4-5 days. Didn't really affect my tinnitus very much. I do agree with the comment by Hopeful 108 that the stress of worrying about the effects of the vaccine could cause the increase. Just information about my experience. Wish you the best.
