Hi I have recently asked on this site about ear plugs to block out loud music at cinema/theartes. But can I ask if anyone gets ear pain and soreness in their ears constantly with tinnitus. I wake with a headache and a sore left ear. Ear ache during the day. Thankyou

my personal opinion - and it’s only an opinion - is that the sore ears and the tinnitus are not linked. Ask your pharmacist for some help in choosing something that will soothe the skin (assuming this is a skin problem). My husband was told by an ENT to use almond or olive oil when his ears itched.

I'm a layperson, so take my post with a grain of the finest salt on offer in your local Waitrose, but I would tend to view tinnitus as a signal, generated by our auditory system, which shouldn't be capable of creating physical pain.

With that said, there are conditions like ear infections which sometimes result in tinnitus being experienced, and they are perfectly capable of introducing physical pain. I would think that most GPs will feel on more solid ground investigating ear problems which have physical symptoms like itchiness.

My GP doesn’t care unfortunately, they are saying my ears are completely fine despite being painful and itchy with tinnitus. My ears are dry with skin coming off but the doctor said that’s fine. I feel like I am being gaslighted, why is it so hard to get referral to ENT 😭

Hi there. I play in a band, plus attend lots of gigs also. Really, any type of ear plug will be better than nothing, but I personally use 2 types which are musician standard. Alpine and Docs Pro plugs. Both fairly cheap on amazon. The docs ones are transparent and fit inside your ear aperture, which means I can use them for swimming also. As for the pain, I agree with the other comments. Tinnitus not usually associated with pain. Better get the doc to have a look. ENT will stick a little pressure meter in there to check for fluid build up etc. Mine was all OK but still have the tinnitus. Best to be sure though.

I get ear pain, feels like a burning sensation and I also get ear fullness. Not sure if it’s T or something else but it started a week or so after T from noise exposure.
