Tinnitus spike, persistent ear infection.

I have had tinnitus since 2009 and have had a few spikes over the years that have caused distress but then settled down. However 6 weeks ago I started with an outer ear infection which developed into a middle ear infection. I have ear fullness, hearing is a little muffled (was really bad but seems better). I had fluid behind my ear drum but doc says its gone now although ear drum still looks a bit dull and red i have had ear sprays and nasap sprayd, amoxacillion tabs for a week then amoxacullion clav tablets and now optomise ear spray again and nasal spray again. My tinnitus is still spiking. Anyone have any words of confort or have been through the same and their tinnitus went back to baseline?

Feeling a bit hopeless here :(

Hi Kat. Sorry to hear of your troubles. Tinnitus is so tough. I had an outer ear infection mid January. My T got louder and eventually returned to normal. Hopefully yours will too. I wouldn't use optimize but that's only my opinion. I'm not qualified to say so. All the best.

I did one spray when I got it b4. Do u think the spray will make it permanently worse?

No. I doubt it. I used it several times before I decided to stop. Why don't you ask your GP for an alternative? Just a thought.

I read on this forum that it might cause tinnitus to spike .. so I asked my GP for canesten instead. Hope your ear clears up soon. Ear infections are horrid.

Hi Rachel. It took about six weeks for my ear to heal and my T. to simmer down. All the best.
