Deaf with tinnitus

My tinnitus was already at level 8/10 almost unbearable. My hearing aids with white noise helped a little and headphones listening to nature sounds like a babbling brook make it about bearable enough to read a book.

Last week i developed a chronic infection in my left ear which has perforated my ear drum.I now have fluid seeping from this ear constantly,am deaf in that ear and cannot put my hearing aid in as the inner ear is so inflamed.I am on antibiotics now 4 days but no improvement. My own fault for poking my finger in my ear to try clear wax now i’m paying the price of being careless with my already damaged and fragile ears.

Could take 8 weeks for the eardrum to mend and i may have damaged it permanently.

I know there was another person on here deaf with tinnitus. It is a punishment beyond living in hell.

No matter how bad you think your ears are now they will get much much worse if you dont look after what you’ve got.

Sorry but take care of what you have left.

Sorry and feel your pain, have you tried bone conduction ear phones?I have a set of these(from Amazon)they are a godsend, leave your ear completely open, the noise that you want to listen to, travels through the bone, might be worth a look

As above, I have just got a set of these headphones as my ears get tender quite often.

Hope you mend real soon.

Hey-I’m so sorry to hear this. As the others have suggested i have found the bone conducting earphones to be amazingly useful.

I have a pair here which are wired (most new ones are wireless) which I have finished with and would happily gift them to you if you think you’d find them useful. They’re Aftershokz ones x

Hello antibiotics can take at least 4/5 days to see an improvement the ear drum will mend but yes it can take 8 weeks or more. I have had this on a few occasions and silly me went swimming with a hole in my ear drum trapping water behind it! Hang in there

Sending best wishes to you x

Hello

I suspect that the ear drum damaged is making your tinnitus worse sadly ears do take a long time to heal.. You could try a warm Warter bottle, not hot! If you are in pain I would ask your GP about painkillers.

A few people have said using sudafed has really helped them, i think it helps dry out the iner ear but please check with your GP first.. If you are very distressed I would see if you can get an emergency appointment with your GP.

I do know how you feel as I have been there remember we are all here to help!

Best wishes and take care
