Tinnitus Increase

I have had tinnitus for 6 years I'm 58 but had no hearing loss and it's been in centre of my head which has been hard but learned to ignore it best I can as it is loud. Sometimes the ringing moves from my head to the left ear and drives me crazy as cannot cope with it but every time this is due to a small amount of wax as I have small ear canal so when wax is removed it goes back to middle of head which I can deal with. Unfortunately this time removing the small amount of wax did not work and the ringing in that ear driving me crazy and I'm getting scared and stressed and not coping again. As anyone experienced this at all. Any help most appreciated as cannot cope at moment as its also got louder. Was wondering if pollen could cause problem with ear but tried tablets for hay-fever but no help.

Hi sorry to hear of this. I can't comment to ear wax issues, however I have found my tinnitus has spiked during hayfever season last two years, and all the tablets seemed to do was affect my sleep.

Thank you for your reply I am hoping it is hay-fever and it will go back to normal soon.

Hi FriSoph, I can't comment on the ear wax issues but my T has been in my head for the last year or so. It moves around and when I'm stressed out, tired or something similar and recently alcohol, it goes into my left ear and resembles rolls of thunder and a feeling of pressure. Always the same sensation for that side. Moreover, I have multiple tones in the region of my right ear: an arctic blizzard with intermittent high pitch wailing. It's definitely got louder - generally - in the past few years and the spikes are now so intrusive and bothersome I can not work. In fact, I can't do much at all when I'm having one. Even walking outdoors is a struggle as I try to get my mind to focus elsewhere. I get hayfever but can't say it makes the T worse. All the best, keep on keeping on.

Thank you for your reply, I feel I can cope with it when it's in my head but not my ear maybe I have to get used to this now. I get so stressed but know that makes it worse just wish it would stop spiking.

Yes, I think I understand. When it goes into my ear, I feel like it's really adding insult to injury for want of a better phrase. It's a struggle to endure it without that "extra" on top.

I’ve had tinnitus for 4 years. It came out of the blue. I hate it! In both ears, all the time. It has such a negative influence on all parts of my life. Have you had a CT? Have you tried acupuncture ? Have you tried cognitive therapy? I’ve tried a lot if various “cures”, but none have helped. I find a direct correlation between anxiety and the level of noise the tinnitus makes. I am currently seeing a therapist for anxiety. Hopefully this will calm the tinnitus down too.
