I am experiencing minor discomfort in my ear, went to see the GP and gave me two options: 1.) Polydexa ears drop 2.) Chloramphenicol. I ran a quick search on Google and apparently both comes with risks. I have bilateral tinnitus and I am really worry about any possible undesired side effects. Anyone in this forum with experience in any of these drops?

Hi everyone, no one in this forum with experience in ear drops for mild ear infection?? Please share. It may be useful for people like me at this moment. Thank you 🙏🏻
Hi spillthetea I'm sorry you've not had any replies. I don't know anything about either of these drops but - if in doubt - tell your GP about your worries and / or ask for an alternative. Ear canals are very sensitive and need to be treated carefully. I'm prone to fungal ear infections for which is use Canesten with no side effects. I hope you find a solution.
Thank you doglover1973 - I discussed it with the GP but he wasn’t quite receptive to what I was saying… I am really worried about using these drops. In your experience, how long would your T come down to baseline level after an ear infection? I am having an spike, but not really sure why… A.) MRI scan or B.) Ear infection (seems to be mild because I have no ear pain). Thank you for your response.
There are two problems with most GP's 1. They don't know very much about T 2. They think drugs & drops are the best way to go. It can take time for T to come down after an infection. Weeks not days. Either MRI or an infection or even just the anxiety around them could cause a spike. If your ears don't hurt I wouldn't do anything . I hope that helps.
I have inflammation due to blockage with earwax plugs, today the doctor completely removed the blockage. He prescribed me Ciloxan and oral antibiotics (I haven't started the oral antibiotic yet).
I have been using Colixan ear drops for 4 days. Now I see this thread and I'm slightly worried. My tinnitus increased even before the exam and I really hope it's due to the inflammation and as I heal it will go back to the level it was before.
This is the composition of the drops, I have to continue taking them because a possible infection can also damage the ear and affect the tinnitus.
Hi dimov666 , thanks for sharing. Keep us posted if the drops and oral antibiotics had any impact (positive or negative) on your T. I hope it gets better soon.
Hi everyone, just an update. I went to see my ENT today; he examined my ears and told me there was no infection, only a trauma in the ear canal from trying to hard to fit in customised earplugs. He cleared up ear wax built up and that was all. Recommended to get better fitting earplugs to avoid further trauma. No need for medication. It was completely unnecessary to prescribe ear drops… It could have created a much bigger problem with no reason. Always visit an ENT specialist if you can. My tinnitus spike was likely caused by the MRI, the trauma, the anxiety or everything at once.
