hi folks I have noise induced tinnitus and hyperacusis been living with it about 5 years.
my question is apart from paracetamol which pain killer can I use without risking exacerbating tinnitus? I have an old injury that flares up now and again. I used to control it with ibuprofen but I understand ibuprofen is an ototoxic drug and to be avoided for those with tinnitus.
Tumeric is apparently an effective anti inflammatory without side effects - any experience and dosage?
Any advice appreciated

from my reading of posts here, different people react differently to different medications (whether pain killers or not).
If you take some medication and then listen for tinnitus I can guarantee (almost!) that your tinnitus will increase.
I’ve not heard of turmeric for pain relief, though it’s said to help arthritis.
A pharmacist would be the best person to help: you could speak to the pharmacist employed by your doc’s group of surgeries or to a dispensing pharmacist
A lot of the discussion about painkillers having ototoxic qualities relates to long-term usage - if people are taking them to manage long-term pain over a number of years, the ototoxic effect may occur. The strength of dosage is also a potential factor - as Rosie says, talking to a pharmacist is a good idea here. They know their stuff.
I took a high dose of Ibuprofen daily for over five years to manage a back injury with no ill effect, I still take it now at the recommended dosage as and when needed and no issues to my current T..
I wanted to share my journey of overcoming tinnitus, a condition that once seemed insurmountable. For years, the persistent ringing in my ears affected my hearing and memory, making daily life a challenge. However, my life changed when I discovered an all-natural formula specifically designed to combat tinnitus.
This formula not only provided relief from the constant noise but also helped improve my hearing and memory. The blend of natural ingredients worked wonders, restoring my peace and enhancing my overall well-being.
I highly recommend this natural solution to anyone struggling with tinnitus. It has made a significant difference in my life, and I hope it can do the same for you.
