Hello Raneen. Please go to the website of British tinnitus Association and find the absolute latest information on vaccines and tinnitus. Also, remember that anyone can get tinnitus at any time and no-one knows the cause. Just because it might have happened at the same time as a vaccination does not mean that the jab caused it.
Yes, no-one knows. As improvements to health are never reported, it might be that lots of people have had their T improved by the vaccine. We will never know!
Side effects, if they do occur, tend to happen within 48 hours of a vaccination being administered.
When people voice concerns about tinnitus being related to a vaccine, they may be talking about unpredicted adverse effects, which are not picked up during a testing phase, as they rely on circumstances or characteristics which wouldn't normally be evident in a clinical trial group.
That's very much true of tinnitus, which is a symptom which was not identified during any clinical trial of COVID-19 vaccines. I think that this is a point worth underlying - tinnitus doesn't tend to develop on it's own and is usually a sign of a health condition having developed. Those outcomes from vaccines tend to be identified at a stage before human testing even commences.
For a vaccine to induce tinnitus, our understanding is that the actual medication itself would have to have some kind of ototoxic, or ear damaging effect, and that would be something which typically develops through large dosages administered over a significant period of time.
From what I can gather, the dosage level of a typical vaccine is 0.5 ml - which is far below the level at which an ototoxic effect on the ear can be induced.
Hi Pat. This is worrying me . If Covid can cause and / or worsen tinnitus wouldn't it follow that the vaccine - a little dose of the illness - could do the same? I'm still in a dilemna about what to do.
I can appreciate that you'd worry about this, as we're all in uncharted territory - the only link which has been drawn between the Coronavirus, COVID-19 and tinnitus is that a segment of people with Long COVID have been shown to have developed hearing loss as one of their symptoms and that tinnitus has been noticed as an indicator of this.
The mRNA vaccine builds a part of the viral infection - the spike - to help it combat the virus. It doesn't introduce the virus wholesale. I think this video does a really good job of explaining what's happening with this type of vaccine:
Thank you for the information Pat ... I may have et dysfunction... but no good doctor ro examin ... I know T is a result of other problem... you are right... I dont have hearing loss .. but my ears blocks daily.. when waking up.. thinking too much, traveling in a car, eating my ears often block ... thats why I think I might have et dysfunction ... wich may be cuased by the vaccine ... I dont know ... Im just trying to undersrand my condetion.. what cuased it ... feeling lost ..
Oh I see . Covid can cause hearing loss which - in turn - causes T. That makes sense. Thanks for the video too. It explains the vaccine really clearly 🙂
Hi , Penny again, I still think I am happier to risk the vaccine and protect against Covid . Tinnitus isn’t dangerous whereas Covid is more so . I’ve had the two and will be pleased to have a third one when it’s offered to me.
You're right Penny. I want to take the vaccine but I wobble when I think of my T getting any louder. The video BTAPat shared is very clear so I might yet find the courage. How are you this morning?
Just sent picture of Teddy ( not easy to send pics). I’m not too bad thanks . I was not able to load Pats video , perhaps I will try again. I’m not looking forward to the winter as it makes dog walking in the woods more difficult . I love walking outside as it helps the tinnitus immensely . The black poodle doesn’t show the dirt!!! The white one is a nightmare .
This is really interesting. I have now seen three different ENT consultants, last two have both agreed on a diagnosis; hearing loss in both ears is causing the T and a balance disorder causing the motion sickness/nausea and blocked ear sensation. Why this has occurred is up for debate but all the ENT consultants have said that they have seen significantly more cases like mine this year. Way more than they usually see and of course the main difference this year is the vaccine. There is a lot of suspicion out there amoungst the ENTs that this could be the result of the vaccine but as one ENT said to me, we may never know so the best thing is to focus on getting better. My symptoms started a couple of weeks after the first jab and became significantly worse after the second jab. At the moment I think I have decided not to have the booster but it's not due until xmas so I may change my mind. It is important to balance the risk of covid-19 against suspicion the the booster may worsen my condition. It is not an easy decision and I am certainly to advising anyone either way.But the important thing is getting better. I am habituating to my T, slowly but making progress, and the ENTs believe the balance disorder will eventually correct itself through a lot of activity. I'm now also medication free!! Every medication that has been prescribed for my condition has made me feel worse! So positive thinking, mindfulness, lots of exercise, healthy eating and drinking lots of water is what works for me.
