Yes - I do believe they can.

You could always look at the test kits that do not require a professional blood draw - usually called finger-prick tests.

Go to the main Thyroid UK site here:

thyroiduk.org.uk/tuk/testin...

Choose the home blood tests link.

Many, but not all, tests are available in that form.

Hi Yes, my GP nearly had hysterics when asked, she is difficult any way. Some will nHS, cheapest way if having a problem is if you know a nurse,or better a phlebotomist who can do it. Other wise, like me use a Priory or Spire Hospital. My Spire useless and no phlebotomist ,so I wait hours until some one can do my blood. Also have to phone first. Priory just turn up. Not a problem, if asked they will put it in their bag for TDL, better, quicker and safer. Not sure about Nuffield, phone, they are the nicest hospital. if Using Blue Horizon, on their main site you can now have finger prick tests, a very reputable Lab and the test is good, they are well known and a high reputation. If you have paid then if you phone, Paul Harris, MD they will usually swap to the finger prick ad send you a new kit ( then throw away the old one), I have to have a phlebotomist, and a good one, as sticky blood and bad veins. Always have a glass of water an hour or so before hand. Also if finger prick warm your hands under water.

Best wishes,

Jackie

Hi Jackie,

No problem with my 'private' blood draw - that isn't the issue.

But whether NHS can refuse to test bloods that are privately drawn is.

Need feedback from anyone who can enlighten me on this

Thanks Penny

The Nuffield charged me £40 for a phlebotomist to draw blood

Hymermad,

That is terrible, shop around, Spire used to charge £15, no .longer go there for reasons stated However, Priory to charged £ 15, now I usually have my thyroid blood for B,H extracted when having other bloods, as I am always having them. I know they are meant to charge, just that I know them well. I hope it continues.! You may find some NHS will do the same, mine very anti.I would be sure to phone all 3 hospitals before you go and ask. When I went to Spire, they did not know what I was talking about. I eventually found one person who did!. Now they are all familiar with the system and Spire and Priory and some Nuffield have all their bloods subcontracted to TDL any way, much much higher costs.

Best wishes,

Jackie
