sparse enamel on teeth, failure to form on second teeth.

One last question before bed, I have only white spots on my teeth, they have always appeared a bit yellow, this is because I failed to form enamel on my teeth when they came through, my mother has this condition too , as do my daughters, I have just seen this as a hypothyroid link too, worried now because of daughters health risk. Anyone else with this complaint?

I don't know if it's linked with hypo but your post caught my eye as when my son ( now 23) was young his front teeth had white spots on them ( kind of mottled). Apart from that the dentist said his teeth were good, no fillings or braces needed.

Around the teenage years he changed dramatically, suffered depression and anxiety and weight gain. He has had problems since and I wonder if he is hypo. Obviously, I have had him tested and he is in the normal range. I took him to see Dr S who said we could try a course of thyroxine but the gp declined to prescribe. By this time my son was fed up with the lot of it and does not want to know about anything thyroid so I cannot push it.

Im sure I've read of a link with fluoride and mottled teeth. The link with hypo is interesting so I will investigate further - thanks! Hope someone on here can advise you further.

Best wishes

I remember having white spots on my teeth as a child......I am 59 now!

I was diagnosed Hashi/Hypo aged 26 and last year it was identified that I am 99.9% certain coeliac. With what I understand from my research if we are coeliac, we are born with it. I have also read that coeliac can affect tooth enamel. So did my undiagnosed coeliac aggravate my immune system and cause the Hashi to develop or was it ging to come along any way?????? Who knows!

I have heard that it can be due to antibiotic use when the teeth are forming.

One of the first things that happened to me when I popped into this world was that I got given prophylactic antibiotics. :-(

This rang a bell from when I was growing up and I remember hearing about the link between fluoride and discoloured, pitted teeth. See link

Another reason against fluoride.

My baby teeth were perfect , but second came through pale yellow with just a few dots of enamel. I didn't have antibiotic issues, just how they formed. My mum was the same and unfortunately both my daughter's too. No antibiotics to make the problem, just genetics. Interestingly enough my brother did not inherit this condition.
