First Visit To Endo.

Hi All,Felling fed up and confused. I had my first visit to endo in Truro on Thursday.Well sort of.On arrival was told endo was on leave so his reg would be seeing me.Great you wait weeks to see someone and then they give you an appointment with the big man while his on holiday. So wait half an hour over appointment time, blood pressure is up by now. Then have a half hour consultation with young man who knows how to tick the boxes. He asked a few basic questions but didn't want to listen to what I had to say or ask. I asked for the result of the ultrasound which showed inflammation and nodules,he said it was fine. He said all my tests were fine and didn't know what the problem was.(I still have all the usual symptoms, though they do fluctuate.)In the end he said he would consulate with his boss next week and get back to me.

What a waste of time and resources.I could have ticked the boxes myself.I though the first consultation should be with someone who knew what they were doing.

Sorry to moan but, well you've all been there.

Moan away beaton! Yes, your right, we've all been there. There just seems to be this big brick wall that you just can't topple. Point is we have to keep going, we deserve a better quality of life than this. Even if it's just a chance to try alternatives or to be met with a little understanding and compassion. We have to show a united front and get knowledgeable so that we can change the ways things are.

All the best...

Thanks Jen.Sometimes,no most times I think Devon and Cornwall are still in the dark ages but I do love living here. My GP is very kind and I hope to see him when I get a result from Truro.

Yes, I think your right, we are still in the dark ages here in Devon. I live in Barnstaple. Haven't yet met a doctor here, (and I've lived here for nearly 30 years now) who has sufficient knowledge of thyroid problems. Perhaps they do but have their hands tied for one reason or another. I still live in hope of finding a good one who will listen and respond with some constructive help though! All the best to you beaton...

I have ended up paying private ( sorry I dont mean to sound negative) but I had the same issues, ultrasound showed multinodular goitre, I have the symtoms but my TSH was normal, I was sent away, and was told to wait and see lol and Im still waiting.

Hi Merissa, thanks for your comments. I have a feeling things are going to go that way. Did you see Dr C ?

my stories long and complicated, I payed private to see Dr B and he really wasnt interested, didnt understand all my symptoms were interlinked, then I went back to docs, who run a blood panel and it showed me to be hyperthyroid ( hashimotos) flick fom one to the other and perimenapouse arghhhh and suggested I go back to the Endo I paid for in the first instance.

I dont think so, they really dont get it, honestly you better off going private for action, I went to London and the endo was brill and prompted my gp.

If one of the team at truro suggests he didnt no what the problem was, then I cant see the top dog telling you any different.

dont waste you time, honestly go and find someone that will listen and understand.

sorry to hear you also had shodddy tratment.

xx.

This sounds almost the same as my last endo visit. Luckily though I've been there before so went prepared and as he couldn't answer my questions I managed to at least get him to agree to a Synacthen test.

I have now written a letter to my endo explaining how I feel, what I want investigated and why, along with attaching any research I could find. I since found out he is now on compassionate leave, so will have to wait for his reply.

It took me over 3 weeks to put the letter together(lack of concentration abilities lol) and I'm still not sure it made complete sense but maybe this would be something you could try too?

Good luck :)

NEVER forget that under the ' choose and book ' system you can choose the [ endo ] and [ hosp.] of your choice-----you need to research who is actually there----WITHOUT HAVING TO GO PRIVATE AT YOUR COST ------ please please work this god awful system to YOUR advantage ------WE CAN GET THERE IF WE ALL KEEP TRYING !!!!!!!

Hi I have an appointment at Addenbrooke Hospitalon the 25th of this month for an underactive thyroid. I used the choose and book but was told by my GP that I could not choose the endo. Is this correct?
