When I first started to be unwell because of Grave's disease I was prescribed Carbimazol, but I had a bad reaction with itchy skin therefore was prescribed propylthiouracil for 8years which caused me a liver damage!

I'd like to know if anyone is on this?

Thanks. xx

I was on Carbimazole with problems so was prescribed PTU (prop.....). I took it for four days and was then frightfully ill. Lost a stone within a week both ends, had no interest in food for over three months and had drug induced hepatitis. Medical profession admitted it was well known for it. Tis when you read the paperwork in the packet that tells you there have only been so many fatalities over a 10 year period!!!!!

We really all should be questioning what we are putting in our bodies.

For me these tablets were a definite no, no.

HI Pingpong! I am actualy furious that my consultant nver thought about sending me for a test to check my liver function out of 8 years of taking PTU! It's an outrage really knowing the side effects are so dangerous..

Hi Cecile,

If it's any consolation, I have required full liver function some nine months after taking them for just four days. Hopefully, your liver will improve - it is a very resilient organ (so I was told). Try to take natural stuff that will boost your liver and hopefully it will regenerate.

I am back on Carbimazole and willingly accept the problems of it now compared to PTU.

Bon chance!
