Got blood results was normal this was my result... - Thyroid UK
Got blood results was normal this was my result after having them regular as have only had thyroid 9 mnths what is normal 3.1 mu/L[0.3-5.5.
Sorry Mirabelle - I maybe a grumpy old lady - but I find your post VERY difficult to read. Others may too and this may prevent you from receiving helpful replies. No full stops .....
Take a look at the tags on the right side of this page and click onto ' more tags ' and then start looking around for TSH readings and their results. Very few people are normal.
Also on the main Thyroid UK page on their website there is a page called - ' Understanding Blood Results '. Take a look in the menu on the left and then the various drop-down menus. In fact the site is an excellent place to start learning about thyroid illness and to give you more understanding. It can be so difficult when you are firsst diagnosed.
Take care and keep posting.....
Hi Mirabelle,
I believe you have had a thyroid gland blood test and the doctor has told you your results are normal. Is that correct? I assume you were diagnosed 9 months ago and your latest blood test is 3.1. How much levothyroxine are you taking?
yes that is what i said im taking 25grms..
If you are taking thyroxine then a TSH above 1 is probably too high for you. Most people feel best with their TSH below 1 so it looks like you could do with taking more than the 25mcg that you are currently taking.
25mcg is a very small starter dose and this should have been increased until you no longer had symptoms, at which point another blood test should have been done to make sure that you were still within range. Your doctor should not be trying to get your result just within range, but so that you don't have symptoms but still being within range. However, some people don't feel well until their TSH is below the range.
Basically your TSH is too high suggesting that you need more thyroxine. This is likely why you are feeling so bad. Ask your GP for an increase to 50mcg and then to 75mcg if needed, then you should have a blood test 6 weeks later to make sure you are not taking too much. If your TSH is still above 1 at that point you could do with another increase.
Doctors seem to worry unnecessarily about osteoporosis and heart problems. You are just as likely to experience these if you are not getting enough thyroxine as you are if you are taking too much. If you were taking too much your TSH would be below 0.3.
I hope that makes sense
