Taking thyroxine at night

How long after food are you supposed to take it?Also as I like a cup of tea before bed does it matter I normally take my thyroxine about an hour before bed so I can have tea before bed or does it not matter?

Just wondering as it seems from what I've heard thyroxine is quite sensitive

hi vanessa well i take mine in the morning about 8.00 every morning i asked my nurse who gives me my b12 injects and she just told me to take it when i felt like it if u get my meaning hope this is an answer for u

I think your nurse wrong as Dr Lowe has said that some foods interfere with the uptake of thyroxine and that's why we take it before breakfast on an empty stomach. He does say if you have eaten leave two/two-half hours after food so that it has been digested before taking meds.

The recommended way is to take it first thing in the morning with a full glass of water and breakfast 1 hour later.

For evening dose - I would take it after I haven't eaten anything for two hours with a glass of water. If you take a cup of tea I would leave a gap of a suitable time after taking dose. I am not medically qualified.
