I have seen elsewhere comments about taking thyroxine at night before bed. Does anyone know/feel if their is are any benefits from this. Having said that my sleeping habits are terrible. So i can often end up taking it afternoons or later if i forget.
Taking of Thyroxine.: I have seen elsewhere... - Thyroid UK
Taking of Thyroxine.
Some people find it better if they take it at night. I take mine in the early hours of the morning when I regularly need a bathroom trip, it keeps it away from other medication , supplements, food, etc.
Experiment and see what best for you.
Poor sleep is common hypothyroid symptom
How much levothyroxine are you currently taking?
Do you always get same brand of levothyroxine
Have you had vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12 tested ?
I take mine at bedtime, an hour or twoafter food or 4 hours after tea coffee etc because it's the most convenient.
I take mine at bedtime! I found it:
A) a lot easier to remember
B) I didn’t have to worry about food, tea or coffee as it was last thing before I slept several hours after last meal.
I personally felt better on it in the evening. Could be because I wasn’t missing any doses, or it could be because there weren’t any absorption problems. And my sleep definitely improved.
I take 125/150 alternate days.
Yes, I would recommend it!
I take mine at bed time then I can take my many supplements throughout the morning
Mine is taken before bed simply because I’m not going to wait around for an hour or so before I can have any breakfast. I don’t get up until after 9:00.
im at late bedder so always take it right before going to bed, its easier to remember and besides i like my cup of coffee first thing in the morning - i have no problem with sleep unless stressed
When I tried taking my meds at bedtime I was up peeing all night so went back to morning, suits much better. I'm retired now so never in a hurry in the morning. Jo xx
Thank you for all of your replies. Im on 125mg levothyroxine, not sure if its the same brand each prescription, have been for years. I take no other supplements these days, and have not been tested for any other deficiencies since diagnoses. I read a lot and it does annoy me that they just focus on TSH when testing, i have to mention T4, as for T3 forget it. I suffer with CFS as well . Had that before Hypothyroidism so kind of a double whammy. But onwards and upwards.
Suggest you really take notice of which formulations you get each time.

Many find taking their T4 at night helped with a good nights sleep . I split my T3 and T4 dose through the day and dose with a small dose of T3 before sleep and I find it to give me a deep sleep and feel energetic when I wake up. It might be that it helps with my Cortisol levels . Little tweaks can make a huge differences .
I couldn't tolerate taking my Levo at night, it gave me awful side effects so I went back to taking it in the morning.
