Wayne, take it after your blood draw or it may skew your results.

Thankyou clutter I've never tooky tablet after a blood test.

Maybe that gives a false reading

It matters a great deal!! DO NOT take any form of thyroxine within 24 hours of a blood test, it only measures what's in your blood not whether its working or not and so can give a false result at best.

well, that's interesting,Glynisrose, because I have always taken my thyroxine as usual, even before a blood test, and when I mention that I still have all these symptoms,(as most of you have them all, too) my doctor always replies,"well, your blood test is showing normal levels now".I have really not been able to understand why,if I am taking the medication, the symptoms from the thyroid problem aren't reduced.(very disheartening, three years on and still overweight 30kg -gained in 6 months before diagnosis-,and being told"eat less, exercise more",when my diet hasn't changed)

If you don't take it the morning of your test then your reading will give a higher tsh and lower t4 so your dr might then raise your meds. Worth a try.

Right I'm really confused now. When should I take my thryoxine when having a blood test. 24hrs before the test? Then next dose after blood test??

Ps thanx for all your kind replies

Hey Wayne

Just take your normal dose the day before then nothing on the morning of the test until after the blood is drawn. That way you will get a true measure of circulating hormone levels. Taking meds just before test pushes everything artificially higher.

(So doc thinks you're fine when you actually need an increase)

Hope that makes sense.

All the best

Never gave this a thought before on the morning of my blood test, (which were every 6 weeks) as I have been feeling really well on my present Levo dosage of 125mcg, so should I change my ways when I decide to go for my yearly recheck.
