Can anyone tell me why, as there's so much positive feedback for taking thyroxine at night, is the poll on it so low? The majority of people, according to the poll, take it first thing in the morning. I'm trying it at night, for the first time, tonight! so fingers crossed as I've been feeling particularly awful for a few weeks.

Taking Thyroxine at night
Good luck I think most people take it in the mornings because a) their doctor told them to or b) it says so in the PIL.
I thnk lots of people who have tried taking it at night time have felt improvements, although not everyone. We are all so different and what works well for one doesn't for someon else. xx
Oh well I'll give it a try. I know we're all different. Just a little anxious if it is supposed to be taken in the morning, what is PIL? (oh is that the notes that accompany the tablets?) Thank you.
I think that medics have seen people respond to levothyroxine by appearing more awake, alert, generally better and have therefore thought of it as being like a pep pill, coffee, or what have you. So they have fallen into the trap of believing taking it at bed-time would keep you awake.
For me, it didn't. Improved sleep was one of the first things I really noticed when I started levothyroxine.
I have only taken it at bed-time!
As Clarebear said, not for everyone but we have seen a number of people saying that it made a positive difference to them.
Wey hey! I could have a fantastic nights sleep tonight then and feel on top of the world tomorrow! Fingers crossed. Thank you.
That will be the day when I feel more awake, alert and generally better!! At "any" time of day! Actually got up at a reasonable time today and didnt have to stagger back with a cup of tea, and dont feel SO bad after taking Levo late last night. It will take a little while I guess to find out if it really helps, but at least it didnt make me feel worse, except for really vivid dreams, which I've had for a long time anyway. So will carry on taking it at night.
I started taking it at night because when I woke up early to take it I couldn't get back to sleep and I was frustrated losing an hour of sleep every day. After taking it at night for a while I realised that my quality of sleep was better in general, so not only was I getting a little more sleep, but it was also better sleep.
For one reason or another, at some stage I decided I'd try it again in the mornings (sometimes it's awkward to make sure I have an empty stomach at night before taking my T4, so maybe that's why I tried it again in the morning) and the difference in quality of sleep really surprised me.
Hope it works for you. Good luck!
