Hi has anyone got any experience of taking NDT at night rather than the morning, as I don't want to leave taking my morning mess at lunch time.

Thank you in advance

Amanda

Hi Amanda, from my readings here, I think many people do take NDT at night or have tried it. I used to split my dose....morning and evening. More important is to keep it consistent.

Hi, As I awake several times during the night, I take mine around 3 to 4am. I take the other half of my daily dose around 3 to 4pm. That normally avoids food and other medicines and supplements.

Hi, i was told that it worked better on an empty stomach as it absorbs best this way. I have found that this is true for me. I am awake a lot during the night so find this so difficult as i really enjoy making a cup of tea and having a biscuit with it, but have found that i dont get that energy surge needed to get through the day if i do eat something prior to taking NDT which can only mean that i have not had the full benefit of proper absorbtion. We are all different, and i know that Levoxin, or Thyroxin doesn't require an empty stomach, and it also doesnt usually matter what time we take it, i think i am right with this. If somebody could elaborate on this it would probably be a help. Hope you find the correct answer to this as it's really important.

I take my NDT sublingually (under the tongue) always have, it takes a good 20 mins to dissolve but it means that you don't have to worry so much about food/drink as it bypasses the stomach.

Recovered7, all thyroid replacement hormone, NDT, Levothyroxine and Liothyronine (T3) should be taken be taken on an empty stomach (one hour before, or two hours after food) for optimal absorption. The molecules bind to proteins in food which reduces absorption.

NDT (ERFA).

I was interested in the replies to your question too Amandajl,as I'm presently on T4 75mcgs/T3 10mcgs all first thing in the morning, but still considering whether to finally go down the Armour route.People often say WHEN they take it,but without saying how large a dose they take at any one time,so it can get a bit confusing.I know we're all different as have spent a long time trying different doses of T4 in combo with T3 but am still having huge doubts about T 4,whatever the establishment say.I feel now I've given it long enough staying with my prescription and my T3 is about to run out,so it's another decision time ........ Either to combine Armour with T3 or go it alone with Armour.......Having been fortunate to be given T3 perhaps just replacing the T4 with Armour would be good.I can see a few more months of experimenting coming up.I believe I've read that Armour can be taken close to mealtimes but need to check that out.It would certainly help with splitting doses.

Would be pleased to hear how you get on.

I felt so much better when I switched from levo to armour, that was back in April. I would not go back to levo as I felt very ill on it. I am starting to feel very lethargic again and feel maybe I need some T3 , I just have no energy what so ever and think that everything I eat at the moment am storing as fat straight away !, but I would defiantly recommend Armour

Marfit, I was taking 125mcg T4 plus 20mcg T3, and taking it in a single dose at bedtime (between midnight and two - I'm a night owl) after a comment by Shaws ages ago that my morning anti-hypertensives might interfere with uptake of thyroid meds. I was far from brilliant on the synthetics so swapped to NatureThroid a few months ago. I've not noticed any difference and am about to increase from 3.5 grains to 4.0 and see what happens :-)

Yes you can take NDT under the tongue or sublingually, this way bypasses the stomach and it's how I've done it since I heard about it from another thyroid group. I never worry about food and drink now, but I do keep Iron away from it, plus Calcium and Estrogen needs to be away from thyroid hormone too.

I always take mine at night.

I really admire all of you who manage to take meds in the middle of the night ... I certainly wouldn't be very consistent doing that.

I'm guessing by your dosage and meds that you may be outside UK.

Even taking it at 6.00 am is not good at the moment as the mornings are darker until our clocks go back....so it's lights on to locate the water without accident,in a groggy state,

However you all take it let's hope we can keep well this Winter.x

NDP has T3 in it and this may give you a kick in the pants which is not what you want if when you go to sleep. My advice would be to try this on a Friday and a saturday and that way you have time to make up any sleep deprivation that may or may no occur.

Good luck and Oh I nearly forgot its worth a try.

I take two grains of WP Thyroid (sublingually) at night just before I go to bed together with magnesium, probiotic, zinc, Seriphos, and selenium. I take supplements in the morning then take a second dose of WP (1 1/2 grain) at 3pm.
