what is an ENDO?.: - Thyroid UK
what is an ENDO?.
It is short for Endocrinologist, if you were lucky to be referred to one for thyroid gland problems. Many refer only to the British Thyroid Association's guidelines, unfortunately for many of us.
They are doctors who have specialised in things to do with hormones.
The thyroid gland produces hormones so when things go wrong with it, the specialist you'd usually need to see, if referred to one, would be an endo, (or in full, endocrinologist).

i have never seen an ENDO,perhaps i'll see one now i've had a relapse. are they like consultants you know they are there but you never see one...like a spirit oooh!.
Well the one I saw in hospital was so crap you'd be better off asking your pet dog for thyroid advice than seeing her.
There are good ones around though too.

I've been searching for one privately and it's really difficult as there are not many that specialise in Thyroid disease - mainly Diabetes. Having found one my GP would not refer!!
PR
I have notice that too, most endos focus on diabetes.
koala
noticed.
I wonder when we will FINALLY get an edit button?
You can but ask - green feedback...!

Hi An endocrinologist looks after all hormones, glandular secretions so, thyrooid , reproductive organs, diabetes, osteoporosis treatment , fluid problems, and most bloods, minerals and vitamins, especially Vit D ( a hormone) so if good they will do all the best tests for thyroid problems, and diabetes etc.. Also if good they by their speciality have a wide range of knowledge about all the workings of the body., and can often pin point a problem from another speciality and do a tertiary referral.

"If good" - those two words sum it up really, but sadly don't often apply.

i sense that ENDO'S are not everyone's favourite specilists...there seems to be a pattern forming here.
