Hi after numerous visits to my doctors with flare ups resulting in joint pain night sweats brain fog depression bloating constipation (bowels stopped working) , feeling cold poor circulation (which I think causes my high cholesterol) tired all the time but can't sleep and general weakness. Finally after years of asking I have an appointment tomorrow with endo,Have been hypothyroid for about thirty years and on 50 mcg levothyroxine. Did ask doctor if I could go up to 75 but he said at my age (74) wouldn't be wise. Sorry to ask so late but can anyone advise me what questions to ask. Thank you

Good luck with your endo appointment tomorrow Lolasmummy. I’m sure you will get an increase because 50mcg is commonly given as a ‘starter’ dose. Can you post your most recent thyroid blood tests (with ranges)? This will help members advise on medication dosage. If you don’t have these, you can ask your GP surgery for a print out (which you are legally entitled to have). Have you ever had key vitamins tested (ferritin, B12, folate, Vit D)?

If you get these optimal it can be hugely beneficial.

Have you ever had antibodies tested (eg to show if you have an auto immune condition like Hashimotos)?

I have read through your previous posts and see you have had good advice in the past. You will know from reading the posts here that many Endos are diabetic specialists and have little thyroid knowledge.

I would start with Private Testing kits sent to your home and have the correct tests carried out. Post results here for comments. You will receive more help this way.

As has been mentioned in your earlier threads you are under medicated. How is your low iron being treated ? Raised cholesterol can point to low T3.

Thank you Marz, many times after getting help on here have asked dr if I need T3 testing as I may not be absorbing it.He replied that they don't test this at our hospital. So will look into private testing.

Well saw endo and he went back thirty years. He said I was hyperthyroid and that's why I had radioactive to reduce the gland (when I last had a scan said there wasn't much left!) Said if anything I am probably a bit over now as don't sleep very well.Has arranged blood test and bone density scan and also T3!! amazing to finally get that tested. Thank you for all your replies x

Hi Lolasmummy,You are not on your own trying to deal with all this. I have at last, after 2 years, got an appointment with an Endocrinologist on 1st July.

Just to let you know I too have night sweats extreme joint pain muscle weakness eyes problems stomach problems tiredness brain fog etc etc, now I’ve got a problem with my lower legs ankle and feet swelling.

I am 68 and in 2005 had a hemithyroidectomy. In 2020 I had the other half removed due to nodules and the cells were ‘abnormal.’

Since the thyroidectomy last year I’ve gradually been put on 125 thyroxine but the symptoms are just getting worse and it feels as though I have no life with it all. I’m hoping that I get some positivity from this appointment, although reading posts on this site I won’t hold my breath.

Good luck for your appointment.
