Have been supporting Adrenals for years & still not good enough to start Thyroid Therapy!?

Does that mean all you guys have managed to reach decent Adrenal profiles before starting Thyroid support?

I think it depends on the thyroid therapy you are using. If you are going to take T3 or even NDT, timings of dosages can be used to actually help your adrenals recover. When you are able to start thyroid treatment, ou will likely have to start slowly though and increase slowly but everyone is different. You may find that as your adrenals recover, you may need less thyroid hormones. You might want to look at Paul Robinson's book "Recovering with T3". It has to do with taking your T3 at the right times so that your body has enough to help with cortisol production, so a dose a while before you would normal produce most of your cortisol. I don't know much about it as I haven't read the book but it does sound like a clever and sensible method from what I have heard, and very logical. This may not be right for you now though. I don't know how shot your adrenals are so I wouldn't want to advise.

It is important to monitor your body temp and heart rate, especially as your adrenals aren't too hot at the moment.

Are you under a doctor who knows about thyroid and adrenals? They may be able to help you more.

I'd been on levo for years and felt terrible. Realised had adrenal problems when I started having low bp, weight loss, dizziness etc. Changed doctor who prescribed ERFA with adrenal support (prednisolone, fludrocortisone) etc... I had hoped that this was 'temporary' 18 months on still on it..... and adrenals are pretty bad I'm guessing....... it's often not easy to know what's going wrong as for me sometimes the symptoms are very similar between adrenal and thyroid.....good luck!!

Oh well --- this refreshing - or not. Those of you taking an adrenal support: did you get your adrenals tested on the NHS or did you do your own tests to reach the adrenal fatigue conclusion? What have you taken to supplement your adrenals and who told you to support your adrenals before taking any form of thyroid medication.?

I was told exactly this by a Dr in a hospital who took my bloods. I know my adrenals are shot - well - moderate to severe fatigue with some symptoms being very severe. Neither endos accepted my saliva test results which I had done privately which made it very clear the condition. This is a disgrace before we start. It is 100% necessary to support the adrenals sometime before (3 to 4 weeks minimum) because, apparently, they will become drained by thyroid meds if not.

These are the sort of things which should be covered the next time the Thyroid Awareness week comes round with the press/ radio and Tv involvement. Wonder what would happen if we all decided to withdraw our financial input to the NHS, placed it in a bank to pay for our health care??? This way we would have the funds to do what we need to do.

Thanks to everyone that answard my question. Appreciate your input.

My Cortisol at begining this year within range - exactly midway Saliva graph all the way. DHEA low end of ref range. Told should be higher before I start T3 treatment.

Last Saliva was a bit screwy! Elevated A.M. Cortisol - then crashed. DHEA unchanged (wondered if intake glucose previous p.m. may have impacted on

A.M. Cortisol - wasn't slow release - Dr. didn't think so?)

Have supplemented with Nutri Adrenal on/off for 3 to 4 years & desperate to start low dose T3. Now Dr. suggesting 7-keto too.

Any thoughts please

QUE6T-33 --- have you had a saliva test? not, I hasten to add, on the NHS (they don't do them except on children in some areas). Also, have you read Dr Wilson's book Adrenal Fatigue The 21st centuary syndrome? You can buy it off the internet & his questionnaire is also there . Well worth while doing both. It explains things very well and there are some tests you can do at home which cost nothing.
