Hi there I've just been to see an endo privately and I asked him about T3. He told me that it is a very difficult thing to monitor and that's why there is a reluctance to prescribe it. It has to be taken in 3 small doses a day. Perhaps you will be able to find an endo who will try you with it, if that's what you and he think would help. He also said that most people had no prob with straight T4. Are you on any other meds that could interfere with thyroxine? Hope you can get the answers you need.

It might help if smaller doses were available. Here we get only 20mcg tablets (which some suggest would be approximately equivalent to 80mcg of thyroxine). In the US they can get 5mcg tablets.

It obviously makes it easier to take small, frequent doses with smaller tablets. You can just about split a 20mcg tablet somewhat unevenly into four giving around 5mcg. But a 5mcg tablet will split fairly easily into two giving just 2.5mcg.
