who treats the doctor?

Somewhere out there there must be medics who suffer thyroid conditions,where are these individuals.Do they go private ?

very interesting question pollyan, this would make a good debate ......but also interesting would be exactly how they are treated and with what .....but then again I feel that this is something we will never be able to find out......I for one would be most interested to find out though !!!!

They have to see another dr as they are not allowed to prescribe for them self.

I've often wondered this too. When my doctor refuses to take me seriously I feel like saying "if your wife was in this situation, how would you be treating her?" Doubt I'd get an answer, but I bet she'd have more choice options and he would be listening. lol.

I'm not sure but I don't think they can treat family, I believe they have to have a different dr.

The nicest words I ever heard came from a young lady doctor at our surgery who was prescribing steroids while waiting blood test results, she said 'If you were my mum, this is what I would want for her' You can't ask for better than that can you?

Some years ago I was in the situation of talking to a consultant who suffered from hypothyroidism. It had snuck up behind and hit him - he only got tested when someone he worked with suggested it.

From his state when I saw this person, he was no better off than many here. He was struggling. I doubt he had considered treatments beyond levothyroxine even though he undoubtedly would have known of liothyronine and might even have remembered Thyroid BP (he was not at the start of his career).

My doctir I had some years back was also hypothyroid and although I dont kniw who treated her (probably her)....she did twll me that on the days she felt bad or was going to be more active she would take more........now she wasnt much help to me as she had me over medicated for a year and denied it even though its in my notes of the dose to take lolol he memory failed her!!!!.....it was the only time I lost weight though....I am now back on that same dose plus t3 and still cant loose weight!!!

Well, several of them have become the authorities we look to and provided lots of research that helps inform the rest of us like Dr. Lowe. I wouldn't wish this on some GP's in the NHS but

it might not be a bad idea if it would spur them on to understanding more about this condition.

The idea of a sentence consisting of mandatory dosing with Carbimazole of doctors who deny the suffering of hypothyroidism has a huge appeal.

After an initial period to lower thyroid hormone levels, they are then left to treat themselves with their own regimes. E.g. tiny dose of levothyroxine that will not get raised.

Repeat offences result in thyroidectomies.
