I’ve been taking the recommended daily dose (3sprays) of Better You D3 +K2 for ages but my Vitamin D level is still consistently low. My last two results were about 25 (50-250nmol/L). I’ve seen the advice on the amount of D3 to dose daily and I want to know if i can just increase the number of sprays of Better You or if I need a different supplement? Do I need to take the same proportion of K2 or can you have too much of that. I would rather take a sub lingual supplement.

Can I take a higher dose of Better You D3 +K2?

so you currently take 3 sprays of the Red one
I would get some plain Better You vitamin D to add as an extra 2 or 3 sprays per day
That’s the blue one - one spray is 1000iu

Or 3000iu in one spray is green one

Are you also taking separate magnesium supplement
Magnesium best taken in the afternoon or evening, but must be four hours away from levothyroxine

Interesting article by Dr Malcolm Kendrick on magnesium
I’ve been low on vitamin D for just over a year. My levels were 20 in Feb 2024 and I was prescribed 3200iu daily for 3 months. That got my levels up to into the 50s. But I still felt unwell. I then started using the spray with the daily dose of 3000iu vit D with K2. Recently had bloods and it’s up to 72 now. But been advised I probably need to take this for the rest of my life with tests done every 3-4 months to keep check on it. Magnesium is also advised to take with Vit D and K2. Was told it can take over a year to get back to normal ranges. Some doctors don’t know anything about vitamins. I’ve researched it for a whole year. It caused me so many problems being very low including high sugar levels. As vitamin D helps regulate insulin in the body but the dr I spoke to brushed it off! But keep taking the spray it’s really helped to get my levels back up slowly. During the winter months I took 4 sprays but now sunny weather is here I’m back on 3 sprays.
Thanks CatLover1111 - I think I need to take a higher dose for a while because I've been taking the maintenance dose for years and it obviously isn't doing it for me! I take magnesium as well. Good to hear that yours is getting better.
Just a quick comment! (Name of practitioner redacted by admin) (who you can watch on YouTube) was speaking to a professor+specialist regarding D3, who suggested taking up to 10,000ius a day was not a problem! A number of Drs I watch (from the USA, such as (names redacted by admin) say the same thing. If you’re struggling to get your levels up don’t be afraid of upping the sprays - I take 5 sprays per day of D3/K2 and make sure I take my magnesium 4 hrs at least after my morning Levo. My husband takes 6,000ius until we get the regular sunshine and then we cut back a little!
My dr says to take with food for better wbsorption like food with some fat so maybe roasted chicken breadt baked potato with olive oil just small amount
i struggled with low d3 for years until I started taking 10.000-20.000 iu d3/k2 daily for weeks and then I started feeling so much better!!! Now I still take 10.000 daily but I should go down to 5000 iu daily cause my d3 was at 157 and last time I checked 122. Its better that d3 is 80-100 it is said. It is hard to get up d3 levels you have to work on this cause low d3 leads to cancer and other stuff
If your levels are low your GP should advise or give a loading dose … once at a certain range you will often be told you now require a maintenance dose, you are expected in most cases to buy these yourself.
I had severe vitamin D deficiency levels in single figures in 2012 and I had loading doses for quite a while longer than most get and then once ok set on my way with 800iu… then they stopped prescribing vitamin D and they briefly stopped testing me also, thinking all was ok as supplementing my levels dipped …I had decided to go on Better you spray 1000iu Oct- April after the 800iu stopped as I was told this was crucial times we needed to supplement vitamin D by our practice pharmacist. However gastroenterologist gave me my usual tests some months later before releasing me back to GP care, and due to a dip in vitamin D, he wrote to my GP asking for my nutritional areas to be done annually (regardless of range or supplementation) along with my coeliac tests, if they couldn’t do this then to refer back and he’d do testing annually. So I’m lucky to get my vitamin D tested as my gastroenterologist asked for all these annual tests and they still do these for now!
So firstly I was supplementing just between October-April but this wasn’t enough, so then I did all year round things improved but not by much … upped my dose now on the better you 3000 with K2 this again helped but as much as you’d think, which found extremely weird but I think as I was getting few digestive issues possibly with acacia that was in it, although sublingual, you do ingest some and an only think at that time it was the digestive issues with this added emulsifier and it didn’t suit me.
I have moved to Bare Biology, beam & balance spray. It’s cheaper on subscription and all my family take it now you can adjust frequency when it’s delivered free and still get the discounted price. It doesn’t have any additives in and 3 sprays gives you 4000iu Vit D3 100ug Vit K2 this has sorted me out, I’m in good range now or was at my annual review last year, after various experimenting, I now take this daily in October-April and every other day or so the rest of the year.
The spray is so convenient! However I found taking D3 and K2 separately in capsule form, from Pharma Nord did a much better job of raising my levels. No need to take with food, the capsule holds what the D3 needs to be active in the body. I have taken breaks and my levels are slow to drop. So perhaps not as expensive as you might think. However we always have to acknowledge that we are all different and what works for one does not always work for another.
I too struggle with low D levels. I’m in the US and have been using an emulsified liquid that also have Vitamin K.
And like you my levels continue to be very low in the 20’s
I mix the drops in my tsp of fish oil
Curious you all feel ‘spray’ is more effective or maybe I need to do capsule that’s in oil
What a tremendous help you all are
