hi, am now on 100mcg levo after being on 50 and then finally after a battle, 75. Here are my medichecks results. Ferritin seems extremely high although I’m not on any iron supplements. Inflammation levels are also high. I have mild arthritis in my knees, which are hot and swollen and now causing peripheral neuropathy. Hair loss more extreme too. Should my levo be increased further? I’d be so grateful for any advice.

I have just used my iPhone to zoom in on your ferritin can you tell me what it says and the ranges please?
Forget that I can see it says 588 now which is over range. Mine is over 400 and it’s because I no longer have periods and I because I have an auto immune disease. I asked my doctor about it and he said we only do investigations if it reaches 900. This was a couple of years ago so I will be having another test to check my levels very soon
thanks! That’s very helpful.
You’re welcome I was alarmed when I saw my ferritin results several years ago so I saw my GP who said it needed to be a lot higher to actually cause any harm. It can be inflammation if you have an autoimmune disease which I do have I haven’t felt ill with this high ferritin so I am just carrying on as usual but I don’t take anything to increase my iron and only eat steak or beef occasionally

Thank you for your incredible patience while you have been awaiting the outcome of our ferritin reference range review. We conducted this with Inuvi lab, which has now changed the reference ranges to the following:
Females 18 ≤ age < 40. 30 to 180
Females 40 ≤ age < 50. 30 to 207
Females 50 ≤ age < 60. 30 to 264
Females Age ≥ 60. 30 to 332
Males 18 ≤ age < 40 30 to 442
Males Age ≥ 40 30 to 518
The lower limits of 30 are by the NICE threshold of <30 for iron deficiency. Our review of Medichecks data has determined the upper limits. This retrospective study used a large dataset of blood test results from 25,425 healthy participants aged 18 to 97 over seven years. This is the most extensive study on ferritin reference ranges, and we hope to achieve journal publication so that these ranges can be applied more widely.
