NHS Endo prescribes T3! πŸ’ƒ

Join me in a little dance!

GP referred me to an Endocrinologist after noticing my persistent under range TSH. She was panicking about bone health etc etc.

I've been on private prescription T3 since April 2023.

NHS Endo I saw today was very thorough, really looked at my own spreadsheet of doses and symptoms going back to 2021.

Upsides: Agreed that T3 was helping me. Agreed that I should stay on the same make if possible. Agreed to stay on same dose. 10mcg daily.

Downsides: wants me to drop another day to 75mcg T4 (I'm already only 35% through range at 24 hours). But I do get a summer surge so will will try 4x100 3x75 for now.

Will monitor me in 3 months.

Sent me for more blood tests as he wants to check my adrenals and TSH receptor to see if I also have Graves.

I only have a few weeks of stocks left from Roseway so I'm thinking 1 more order with them to give me a buffer, especially if GP is uncooperative. Why do I feel its too easy.... it probably is, there has to be a catch πŸ™ƒ

Yeah! I know right! I've emailed TUK to get him added to the list, I feel lucky that it seems to be rare that they prescribe but OK if it helps with symptoms in our area.

Yeah - I thought that, but will be nice to know, I've been a sweaty flighty one most of my life so it will be interesting to see.

possible trouble ahead with Roseway’s unless I’m just unlucky, I booked an appointment for Wednesday. I registered with them last year & using an old private prescription was allowed my T3 & T4. A repeat prescription was also stored in my account which I used.

Now I’m really struggling. My account has disappeared. I’m being asked to register again & verify my identity. I’ve tried twice & the info disappears leaving blank forms. I’ve asked for help twice & got nothing constructive back. It’s chaos. I don’t know where all my medical history etc has gone. I’m loosing confidence. Typically, since it worked so well last year, if allowed my supply to run very low, I’ve no T3 now. So annoyed

Has anybody else experienced similar problems? I’ve left a phone message & emailed but I’m not feeling confident about my Wednesday appointment . How can they have no records of previous clients?

That’s a shame, they are super busy and yes I had a whole new set of forms to fill in last time. They’ve certainly tightened up their procedures. Probably for the greater good 😊

It very much depends on the staff member you encounter!!!!

Whop whop πŸ₯³

Welcome to a whole new ball game with plenty of hoop jumping and often random threats and even more random statements! But you can have a giggle with that aspect.... I wouldn't hold out much hope of sticking with TH as it isn't listed by the NHS, they are most likely to put you on Roma ( I can't remember do you split your T3 dose?)

Shame about the reduction in T4 when he can see your levels are already on the low side but you will become an expert in producing the 'acceptable' results to hold on to your optimal dosage πŸ˜…

Game on!

Is he planning on getting your GP to take on the prescribing in a shared care arrangement as that can mean some serious persistence and GP/ staff training on your part 😬

Regenallotment profile image

He said he would write clearly to GP that they support my taking T3 and will take over. Seeing me again in 3 months. Hopefully GP will is too busy to be bothered.

We talked about it, he thought he could request it. We shall see.

You have a far better GP than most 🀞 though mine does now prescribe and dispense she insists on referring to T3 as "oh and that other stuff you take" 😳

Congratulations, let’s hope you retain a degree of autonomy over dosing. Is he testing for Graves’ antibodies because of the TSH?

Regenallotment profile image
RegenallotmentAmbassadorβ€’ in reply toJ972

I think he is testing because of symptoms and partly curiosity. I’ve a long history back to childhood of Graves type or Hashi hyper swings he just wants to rule out having both. Also testing adrenals.

my nhs Endo also wrote to my GP to request they take over Lio prescribing but they refused - don’t have authorisation from local ICB

To be honest , in my case it hasn’t mattered as Endo is happy to continue prescribing and so far I have had no problems getting repeat β€˜scripts.

Also, just to say, having been on T4:T3 combination for about 3 years now, I feel very much better with T4 sitting at the lower end of the range than when I was on just T4 and it had to be over range for me to function. We are all different of course

Best of luck.

Very well done! If your FT4 is currently only 35%, where is your FT3? Private Endo told me to drop T4 dose from 75mcg to 50 when starting T3. Since without taking T3 I knew 63 mcg T4 dropped my FT4 to 50%, and FT3 to about 40%, I didn't do it. So interesting that you seem to function with FT4 at 35%. I think McPammy is similar and normally she feels very, very well-though she recently posted having a bad spell.

I know you like your cbd drinks (off topic, but it is your post). Try the Medahuman Revive cbd drink and gummies if you haven't already. The Revive gummies have copper and zinc in appropriate proportions, as well as some Selenium Selenite (the form I am currently supplementing though selenium over range in blood, under in a hair sample). Other appropriate vits also present, though folic acid rather than methylfolate. The small amount of B12 is methylcobalamin.
