Hi, a recent blood test is indicating hypothyroidism, but also have on going issues with tonsils, tonsil stones, could this be related? possibly indicating an auto immune issue??
connection to tonsils?: Hi, a recent blood test... - Thyroid UK
connection to tonsils?

Possibly
Get FULL thyroid and vitamin testing done
Low vitamin D often linked to issues with tonsils
For full Thyroid evaluation you need TSH, FT4 and FT3 tested
Also both TPO and TG thyroid antibodies tested at least once to see if autoimmune
Very important to test vitamin D, folate, ferritin and B12
Low vitamin levels are extremely common when hypothyroid, especially with autoimmune thyroid disease
About 90% of primary hypothyroidism is autoimmune thyroid disease, usually diagnosed by high TPO and/or high TG thyroid antibodies
Autoimmune thyroid disease with goitre is Hashimoto’s
Autoimmune thyroid disease without goitre is Ord’s thyroiditis.
Both are autoimmune and generally called Hashimoto’s.
Significant minority of Hashimoto’s patients only have high TG antibodies (thyroglobulin)
NHS only tests TG antibodies if TPO are high
20% of autoimmune thyroid patients never have high thyroid antibodies and ultrasound scan of thyroid can get diagnosis
In U.K. medics hardly ever refer to autoimmune thyroid disease as Hashimoto’s (or Ord’s thyroiditis)
How old are you?
Lower vitamin levels more common as we get older
What vitamin supplements are you taking
Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test
This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)
If GP won’t test everything

The incidence of a group of autoimmune diseases was higher in individuals operated with a tonsillectomy.
I have Stills disease diagnosis made aged 17 in 1979. I have developed other Autoimmune conditions over the years. I’m currently being tested fur thyroid problems. The first symptom in 1979 was a sore throat and is classic with Stills but this symptom has remained constant ever since then and ranges from mild to debilitating. Not helpful to you I know but all knowledge is power.
