In my very humble opinion, yes.

The reason I say that is because I was ill for 2 years on Levothyroxine (before I knew very much about this subject) and the day (the very hour to be exact!) I switched to an NDT (Armour fyi) all of my symptoms disappeared. I felt more saliva flow into my mouth and my knee joints felt "lubricated", i.e. they could move again without any pain. So, what this tells me is that more moisture is secreted once your T3 gets going. Hashi is low T4 and T3 amongst other things. Levo gives you no T3 and hence, I think a drying up effect.

HI Sjogrens is common with thyroid disease and starts with dry eyes. You need non preservative eye drops, GP.

Hi I believe there is NOW a blood test but the usual diagnosis is lip biopsy, most specialists ( specialist rheumys) do not bother as so obvious. basically it is lack of secretions. There is treatment but usually just special mouth washes, gels and toothpaste and drops for eyes, they are gritty.

I have coeliac and I am hypothyroid had dry eyes and dry mouth for years...I am being treated for UCTD which is a cousin of lupus / sjogrens. My tear film break up time is far too quick and so does not protect my eyes and I believe I have TED too according to the consultant. It is important you get preservative free drops to use throughout the day which will protect your cornea and give the surface of your eyes the lubrication they need. The consultant prescribed HYLOFORTE for me which are fabulous. Hope this info helps.

Louise Warville, on this site, has a doctors list. Maybe there is someone in your area.

You can order your own tests and self medicate, if all else fails..it is less of a hassle, than dealing with doctors and constant blood work.

Hi...rather late in the day after your post was put out...yes..I have very dry eyes....and the more hypo l am the worse it gets. Am on NDT for last 20 months, but still not entirely sorted..and neither are my eyes. I have Gel Tears x3 xmonthly on prescription..this improves things somewhat , and indeed, could not be them.
