The blood didn’t mix with the yellow stuff at all. Will that mean it’s coagulated? Had to use all three fingers and I kept thinking I’m squeezing too much. It’s taken more than a day to get to them.
If they can’t test it will they send another??

The blood doesn't have to mix with the yellow stuff, you need to make sure you've gently inverted the tube about 10 times. See this from letsgetchecked.com
If you've squeezed you may have damaged the blood.
If you've taken a day to fill the tube I think that may not be a successful sample.
If they can’t test it will they send another??
Check their Ts and Cs, it will give information there. If you think you will fail at another fingeprick test then ask for a venous blood draw kit and arrange your own blood draw or arrange a clinic appointment, you will have to pay extra for phlebotomy. Maybe talk to Medichecks.
Did you use the Tracked24 return envelope or did you pay extra and use Royal Mail's Special Delivery Guaranteed by 1pm Next Day?
If you used the Tracked24 return envelope it is not guaranteed to get there within 24 hours and at the moment with the postal strikes a lot of post is being delayed.
The Special Delivery guarantees delivery next day or you can claim the fee back. I always use this, strikes or no strikes.
thanks Susie, results came back all ok though I honestly didn’t know how much to trust the sample! I have another in November and may either pay for a draw or at least I know better how to do it this time!
Vit d was 74. I’ve had increased aches and pains though I’m also menopausal and increasing hrt levels at the moment.
I know optimal use higher- do you think it will help to try to get it over 100? Have others found they’re better when higher/ “optimal?”
Good that it was all OK after you worrying. What were the results?
As for Vit D, depending on which lab does the test and how they set their ranges, your result would be "adequate" and some say over 75 is "replete".
The Vit D Council, Vit D Society and Grassroots Health all recommend 100-150nmol/L and Grassroots Health's recent blog post recommended at least 125nmol/L. I like to keep mine close to 150nmol/L but I think it's like everything else, that's not right for everyone and some are fine with a lower dose. I did have severe Vit D deficiency with a level of 15nmol/L originally so I like to make sure that I keep my level up.
If 74 is your level in the summer with no supplementation, it's likely to reduce during the winter months when we can't make Vit D naturally, so maybe repeat when you do your November test and then you can see what dose of D3 may be needed during the winter months if you decide not to supplement now.
thanks. I would say that’s with some supplementation but sporadic 3000 spray. As it was so sunny I stopped. I’ve also “seen” the Sun a fair bit but must say I use sun cream more than I used to as I find meno skin doesn’t like it!
So I’ve decided to use the spray daily (2-3 times a day for the first couple of weeks with 600 vit k and lots of magnesium) and am getting a test in a couple of months. But will mainly go on symptoms.
My query is really if anyone has noticed improvements moving from 74 to over 100 or 150 (effectively double) or if these joint issues are meno.
Vit D 75 (50-200)
Active b12 was 108 (37-150)
Folate 19.8 (upper range 20.58)
Crp 0.36 (0-5)
Tsh 1.14 (0.27-4.2)
T3 4.14 (3.1-6.8)
T4 19.7 (12-22)
Ferritin 117 😱 never been that high! And that’s with spatone and vit c which does work well (but I was expecting more like 80 is why I worry the test isn’t accurate!)
(Now I usually get thyroid done around 9 am and this was 7 am. I’m not sure that was a good idea to do so early! It’s been consistently tsh 0.2 and t4 19 or 20 for a while via Gp. I would not say I need more as if anything I’ve been feeling a bit wired! I do feel it’s meno/ better oestrogen and possibly testosterone and the vit d I need to look at first.)
meant to say, I’d also had an awful stomach bug tbe week before which may have upset my thyroid results. I thought I was ok waiting a week but maybe not!
ah I’d been told that level of k2 is ok from a vitamin d group.
If my thyroid test isn’t good next time I will be looking into that further. I’m not sure there’s an issue based on symptoms and previous results and with hindsight I am concerned the stomach bug and testing very early may have caused issues in reliability.
