Three Arrows taken with folate?

Hey all,

Just wondered if it’s okay to take Three Arrows iron at the same time as a methyfolate supplement?

I did google it as I know iron can affect absorption of other supps but can’t find an answer.

I’ve decided to go ahead and start supp’ing everything I’m lacking (results in prev post) I’m struggling so much to keep going at work and worried about losing my job tbh at the mo. When I feel better and more stable then I’ll stop my b12/complex/folate for 3 months and then do some more testing I think!

Anyway, trying to keep this brief!

Thanks,

GTS

When you feel better and more stable then you need to continue the good work you have been doing and continue to take the supplements. If you stop the supplements then you will end up right where you are now.

Iron should really be taken 4 hours away from anything else as it affects absorption of other things.

Jaydee and GreenTealSeal_

Jaydee - iron and b (folate or other b’s in the complex) do not compete for absorption pathways.

I know we all, me included, quarantine iron like the plague : ) as a rule because we know it blocks so much…

Tagging humanbean for a second opinion, but iron and methylfolate have their own receptors and transporters so can be taken together. HB, am I overlooking something?

I think the blocking is in the gut, isn't it? Not at receptor level. Iron stops other things getting into the blood.

Iron is absorbed through the lower part of the small intestines, folate in the middle and upper. Each with their own specialized receptors and transporters that get them into the blood. They don’t compete or block each other.

I had to re-Google to check that, so open to challenge!

OK :)

Three arrows is heme iron so the usual rules of non heme iron (needing to take it away from other supps etc) do not apply. You can even take three arrows with coffee/tea and the polyphenols/tannins will not block absorption! The only dietary factor that can slightly affect heme iron absorption is calcium- but to nowhere the same degree as it does non- heme iron.
