I have hypothyroidism and yesterday I had a CT scan with contrast injected into me. This morning I am feeling totally exhausted. Can the iodine contrast have this effect.

Hypothyroidism and CT scan with contrast

Personally I’ve had more contrast scans than I can count, never had any problems with it. Could the tiredness you feel be a stress reaction to having the scan.
There are considered to be issues around scans using iodine. I have had some myself now. However my view is in line with bantam12 . The whole scenario of needing the scans in the first place is tremendously stressful. Sit back/lie back and relax now and take the necessary rest and whatever time you need to get back to ‘normal’.
I have had a few have always been recommended to drink plenty of water for 24/48 hrs after scan to help flush contrast out, which I do and never had a problem. as others say it could just be reaction to the stress on the body from the procedure. hopefully you feel better very soon.
Yes, but it passes. The iodine in the contrast medium can send your hypo thyroid into a bit of a hissy fit. Drink as much as you can and then drink some more to get rid of it as soon as possible. Dont worry if your wee is a strange colour! If you start to get lower back pain, go to your GP as your kidneys can be affected. Just try and take it easy for a few days, be kind to yourself and tell your thyroid to just stop acting like a toddler! I tell mine off quite regularly, may not help the thyroid but it helps me and my brain!
If you need another scan soon, ask for a different medium - they dont offer it as it is more expensive.
Yes, I had quite a bad delayed reaction to a contrast agent recently. Google said it can make you feel like you have the flu, which is exactly how I felt with muscle aches and a high temperature and everything. It will pass though!
Thanks for the comments. Slowly starting improve.
