I know many of us take Vit D supplements. Has anyone experienced a low platelet count while taking the supplements?
Looking on google it appears it can happen with a few people. Only asking as am having some investigations done for what we think is non- thyroid illness but docs have asked about my vit D supplements.

I had a quick look and it appears that people with low Vitamin D levels can have a higher platelet count, which can increase the risk of having blood clots.
Vitamin D supplements can decrease the platelet count and can therefore contribute to a lower thrombotic risk. Vitamin D can also help to reduce the mean platelet volume (MPV), which means smaller platelets are less likely to 'get stuck', so again contribute to a lower risk of thrombotic events.
Unless you have a very low platelet count (known as thrombocytopenia, which can occur in bone marrow disorders (aplastic anaemia) or in cancer (myeloma, lymphoma, leukaemia)), the lower platelet count through Vitamin D supplementation should generally not cause any major problems.
