Tracker /grapher for blood test results etc?

Hi all.

I want to record my many test results in a tracker to show current status and trends over time - I'm hoping this will help the right Doctor find the root cause of my issues.

Does anybody have a good blank tracker that's already made that they'd be willing to share please?

I'm good with excel but I know I'll be re-inventing the wheel here if I make it from scratch so thought I'd ask on here.

Appreciate any help as always ⭐

(P.s I did Google it but I'm very dubious about downloading things from websites I'm not familiar with and assumed folks on here would have a tried and tested version that is helpful)

Are you not sleeping?

I get to sleep ok but wake around 2am-3am each night and can't get back to sleep no matter how long I lay there. So annoying and tiring.

Google play... Not familiar with this. Will do some research thanks⭐

I have a google account and store photos etc as it is free and I don’t want to pay iCloud for extra storage

Ah I see what you mean now. I was more looking for a spreadsheet I can update which will show graphs of trends of blood tests over time and the current status within / outside of range.

If nothing materialises I'll need to make one but I imagine it's been done a thousand times by now!

My GP has one of my blood results he showed me how my TSH had been dropping over several years. Quite alarming to see how long it had been going on without me having any symptoms

Interested to see replies . I just put everything into a Google sheet and you can click on the various columns and create line graphs (like Excel).

The odd time someone has posted a link to a spreadsheet. The problem seems to be that in order to get a nice display, you have to put in some work. (Not massive, but formatting numbers, identifying axes, etc.) By the time someone does that, they have probably both made it a little bit specific to what they want, and also more difficult for someone else to change, especially if they do not have any spreadsheet skills.

Of course, someone could put a lot of effort in and use forms for data entry, etc. But I am not aware that anyone has made such a version available.

You do have the option to add details to things like Apple Health (assuming you have an iPhone - is there something for Android?). And there are a few apps.

Exactly this - as generic as we might try to make something initially, over time it gets more and more specific to the creator, and more and more imperfections creep in.

[ Non-techies might want to stop reading here :-) ]

As an example, I have a table of my results, and another table with the reference ranges for each type of test. I then use conditional formatting to highlight in the results table anything that is outside the corresponding reference range. Unfortunately, over time, the labs change the reference ranges, so if the reference range table is updated with the new values, the highlighting of older tests may change. Or, if tests are done in different labs, they may simply have different ranges, so different cells in the results table need to use different bits of the reference ranges table. As a result, adding new columns for new tests gets a bit nasty. Over time, it gets more and more work keeping everything exactly right. And then there is the complication of things that aren't bound ranges, so simply less than a value or more than a value, rather than being between (inclusive) two values.

That's before adding graphs to show trends. Ideally, there would be an expandable bit for each each type of test, that when expanded would show the appropriate graph. I'm pretty good at Excel, but not an expert and haven't had the energy/inspiration/time to look into how to do expandable sections. Without that, it all gets a bit messy. It's probably not that difficult, but never quite got to looking into it...

For myself, I think it would be ridiculous to spend much time on such a spreadsheet.

If I did tests every week - and could directly correlate lots of factors against the results - it could be good. But something like a test once or twice a year simply isn't going provide that. So I might as well eyeball the numbers.

I do the correlation as well :-) But I’m a techie and data is something I do. There are limits though to even what I will do on such things :-)

I can see the issues here.

I'd normally love a challenge like this tbh... Maybe I'll have a go at it when I'm on the up

Thanks both. I might just do some work on this when I feel a little better and see if I can put something together that's editable/adaptable for different results.

Would've like to use excel but not paying another subscription... Back in the day you bought it and it was paid for, but like everything else now the money is in the monthly payments.

There'll be subscriptions for underpants before we know it 🤣

[Sorry... Rant over!]

There's always LibreOffice available without cost on numerous platforms and similar enough to Excel that switching shouldn't be too painful.. Or, if you are on an Apple platform, Numbers.

If you are not replying to an individual, using the blue Reply button under their reply, you need to mention, or call out, those to whom you are replying - otherwise we might never notice. :-)

helvella - How to "mention" or "callout"

Having read a post or reply, I've noticed that you might wish to alert other members to your post or reply. For example, you might have said so, or asked how to do so, or tried but it has not worked.

This is an explanation and screen recording showing how to callout members in posts and/or replies so they get alerted.

This is not to say you have done anything wrong. This is meant to help you by pointing out this option, and help to do so, not to criticise.

There is no need to reply! If it was helpful, ticking the "Like" button lets me know.

Thanks helvella - I'll be using this tip in future! ⭐

Not heard of Libre office - I'll have to have a look into this so thanks for the heads up too.

Just adding in case it helps anyone, you can also use Excel *online only* without cost:

It’s also possible to buy Office 2021 as a one-time purchase , but there is no upgrade path

Hi Entwicklung,

I did a quick online search and this came up on Thyroid UK. Not sure if it's helpful unless you use an iPhone but I posted a link anyway;

thyroiduk.org/testing/keep-...

Also if you search on Health Unlocked other groups are asking the same question for their specific blood results and there are references to blood results trackers on other forums so you may find something that way.

I'm not keen on installing apps because we really do not know much about their maintenance, especially re privacy and security.

Even reputable and well-maintained apps can open the door to data harvesting:

Data Broker Hack Exposes Location Info From Millions of iPhone Users

In this specific instance, it appear that installing Adguard and not allowing apps to request to track would have protected people.

Not what you're looking for?
