Hi all. Just to say I had my thyroid test done today. I thought. Results wouldn't be back til Friday. But see on my notes that the reading for my TSH is now showing 1.2 I was thinking I will have to battle with Drs and push to get increased as they will say it's perfect this time .But now if it's at 1.2 I can't really do that

The gp has marked it as normal no further action needed I don't have the official lab test results for the T 4 but I have felt terrible past 4 months. And throbbing thigh and numb knee left side my bones and joints are aching all over and nerve pain various parts suddenly I am glad the readings saying normal but my walking is worse if anything and feel terrible can anyone advise please x

Test was rather soon after increasing to 100mcg

Which brand of Levo are you taking

Do you always get same brand

Was this latest test early morning

TSH will initially drop after a dose increase in Levo, it then will very slowly rise over coming months…..assuming you need further increase

Previous post here

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu....

Retest FULL thyroid and vitamin levels privately in another 4-6 weeks

Important to test Ft4 and Ft3

And test vitamin D, folate, ferritin B12

Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

Hi thanks replying esp new years eve sorry I didn't explain it properly I have been taking 100 mcg for full 8 weeks now most of which and before that I felt even worse than when I started on levothyroxine I am usually taking the same brand. ... Accord test was done at 945 this morning I did say shouldn't it be done earlier but they just said long as before 12 .presume to send blood off testing but was odd that Dr had reviewed it by 340 this afternoon bit quick looks like I am being left at 100 mcg then tho weights high and.goung chilled body aches coughing up mucus excessively . All things I read are associated with low thyroid. Am.disapoointed that I could be left like this now .as been assured my symptoms would disappear once readings were corrected . It was my only hope zm more concerned about my.health and heart than was last November yet blood tests all seem.ok they don't seem to know where to send me so don't bother ..walking is terrible I dread leaving house as know I can't walk like everyone.else .there must be.someone.in medical profession able to test or find out why .. thanks for all the info...Happy new year to everyone x

Just testing TSH and Ft4 is inadequate but all that NHS typically does

Request GP test vitamin D, folate, B12 and ferritin

Or test privately with full thyroid in another 6 weeks

It does take several months for each dose increase to settle

Hi Janine 159,

Yes, get blood tests for those suggested above PLUS get a thyroid test, privately……my money is on you having low T3.

Put results on here and we can advise further.

Thank you I hope so too as noone should be left like this surely I get upset as walking been affected I was told by chest clinic Dr that's something can happen with low thyroid .my gp also put me on thyroxine thinking the walking would improve once got to right levels ..the Dr who did my.last review laughed at that I explained that there's people on thyroid uk who also have walking problems from it and chest clinic Dr learnt it at med school..amd the other gp at the practice said my walking could come back so he wasn't.sending me to.orthaepedics or anywhere .so I hoped the same once near the right dose it would all get better . I am worse now than when started tempted to think.come off them . Just don't know if t3 was out hiw will I get that treated need endocrine specialist I imagine if I test privately would a Dr listen or be able help. Or know enough . That's the trouble thank you hoping Dr will ring or I will be going back see them xx

Dear Janine159, I want to tell you about my experience in case it helps. A throbbing tight thigh muscle - on the right side in my case - was one of my symptoms too. I found it very bothersome especially at night. It disappeared after starting thyroid medication but came back recently along with other symptoms and persisted despite slowly increasing my NDT/Levo doses (I take both). And then I remembered that when I’d first started thyroid meds I’d also supplemented with selenium based on guidance from Izabella Wentz, the Thyroid Pharmacist, whose books have had a big influence on me. I took it for years until about 9 months ago when I thought I’d have a little break … and then forgot about it. Well, a quick google search showed that muscle pain was a symptom of low selenium so I decided to have another go and after a couple of days at 200 mcg the pain had almost gone … so perhaps something to consider? 200 mcg is the recommended dose. Good luck 🤞

Thank you I don't think there's anything that doesn't.seem to be caused by low thyroid that's the trouble then I had the gp last review by phone saying that usually most only have a bit of fatigue . I said I had hoped all my symptoms might disappear once I get the right dosage . He seemed amused by that . I just thought what hope have I got if that's really all you think thyroid deficiency does . ? This is ruining my quality life and so.unimportant to GPS. Today has been bad too chills going cold coughing up mucus as always . Aches left upper arm leg throbbing knee numb .plantar fascitis type pain heel over a year now . Nothing checked . Other foot toes feel numb tingling neck pain at back . Throat feels terrible . Have had traces blood up nostril pain behind eyes head. Feeling light headed. Can't walk unaided. Holding onto things .. its hard going I zm hoping the Dr will ring to review thyroid and no doubt will think has sorted everything out and I am happy am thinking is it the thyroid med affecting my heart should I not be taking it ? Do I have a false reading and now its affecting my heart taking too much ? I have read that mucus happens with under dosage thyroxine . I also know it can cause bone pain . And baCk hip pain am also thinking is my walking problem from spine problem stenosis maybe .it has been mentioned on my mri scans nit serious enough tho I can't stand too long as burning pain bottom spine think there's fluid retention too I also think is it my heart suffering? And so it goes on not knowing and sure GPS won't know or understand .luckily people on here do . Think I will go mad worrying soon not nice fir hubby or family living with this .I just can't see hiw I can get them to test t3 and if did would they know enough to help I imagine be another referral wait 6 months plus I wad supposed be referred endocrine last January. That didn't happen ... this is why I dread taking thyroxine as there's noone once you're on them they don't want to know about anyone doesn't.conform . I think if they found you had low thyroid it might be easier to test your t3 before you spent years suffering. But that's in the ideal world I suppose thank yiu all for help .I didn't want start another year with sane problems untreated but seems I am xx

Dear Janine159,

I'm sorry it's taken me so long to reply. You have so much going on, no wonder you feel so overwhelmed! My heart goes out to you. But you have received some good advice from SlowDragon, I suggest you go through it one thing at a time, and come back here once you get some more results and you can ask for further advice. Take it slowly, one step at a time, and I'm sure you can feel better. In the meantime, take care of yourself like the precious being that you are. All the very best, Donna xxx

Thank you Donna sorry not looked on for a while . Am trying to deal with my. Latest thyroid test results no Dr has rung me to ask how I feel but seems looking on my records that he has now declared my thyroid normal which was laughable not even checking hiw I feel first .might help ! Anyway I felt terrible and I am wary to say my walking is z little bit better in that I don't feel off balance precarious on my feet as I did . But.keft knees still numb and leg really I took advice and ordered a test kit hopefully it will.show the t4 resdings and t3 and antibodies as all I had checked was the tsh before Xmas. Just left now j don't know if I felt tested again in 8 weeks or whether Dr thinks I am happily getting on with life . Maddening really as I weigh quite a lot now and am only on 100 mcg thyroxine which it's said is usually OK someone 9.5 St. I expected to be increased til got to 150 at least ..but as my tsh was rested as 1.2 now Dr's left me as it is ..saying normal ..in that case I need investigate the coughing up and why struggle walking znd still get chills ..my test I sent off privately thus morning will at least tell me the t4 . Hiw z Dr can say normal with no other readings I don't know.. but I have been leftcwith no follow up at all .I feel there's no Dr to help they aren't aware or interested in aftercare . I struggled with the test collecting enough blood in phial am hoping they don't reject it . As I need to know whether t3 t4 and anti bodies are OK . You should be seeing a gp at least but I dont seem to be taken seriously esp as can't walk as I would love to . Affects your quality life drastically I know people on here have had same things and it went once trusted adequately . That's the trouble I don't feel I am . .thank you for replying everyone x
