Really annoys me, the way the researchers spread fear about how doomed poor (and now erratic) sleepers are.
Todays Guardian says not only must we achieve the certain number of hours but we also have to achieve them at the same time - going to bed at the same or similar time each night and waking up ditto. Further increase in stroke and cardiac event if not.
As if we don’t try!

My husband is a chronic insomniac and has been since childhood, you can imagine the effect it has on me when I read those articles. He's been bombarded by daft but well meaning advice for decades including " have you tried going to sleep" ?
Taking levothyroxine. Slowly, very slowly, improved until I was sleeping absolutely fine - as I usually still do.
I take mine at bedtime - and always have. Some effect started almost immediately and sleep improved as my dose rose. In the early days, I might sometimes have gone to bed without taking it - but when I did that, I wouldn't fall asleep. So would get up, take it, and go back to bed - and sleep.
That’s interesting. I’ve often wondered if I’d be better taking it a night. That full glass of water first thing is bleurgh! I did try it for a few nights as I believe research has shown it works better. I might give it another go!
You do not need a full glass of water! (Unless you are taking Levoxyl or another that puffs up - possibly in your throat.)
Recently I saw suggestion of 50 ml or so. (Sorry - managed not to collect a link.) I usually take about half a glass - but it depends on what I feel like.
Drat! ‘Take with a full glass of water as it needs to get to where it needs to be.’ I was told. I queried this and the answer came - ‘The small intestine’ . So it sails through the stomach like a stately galleon? Anyway, I gave up and just did it.
