Hi,

There is no one form of thyroid hormone treatment that is good for everyone. We are all different so react differently to different types of THR. Many people do very well on Armour, but you have to try it to find out if it suits you.
I am somewhat surprised your specialist didn't prescribe levothyroxine and liothyronine as separate medicines. That would be the closest to Novothyral.
After all, if Armour were in his professional judgement the right form of replacement thyroid hormone for you, he should he offered you a switch to it when he came to that opinion. Not when his hand has been forced due to supply issues.
Further, separating the two components of Novothyral allows them to be dosed separately and doses adjusted independently.
Hey there again :
Last time I wrote to you you were taking Novothyral - did you find this worked for you - is so what dose did you end up taking ?
Armour is a brand of Natural Desiccated Thyroid and the original treatment for hypothyroidism and successfully used for over 100 years - it is derived from pig thyroids, dried and ground down and then made up into tablets referred to as grains and contains all the same known hormones as that of the human thyroid gland.
Each grain contains trace elements of T1, T2 and calcitonin + 9 mcg T3 + 38 mcg T4 :
How does this compare with the dose of Novothyral you are currently taking ?
How are your ferritin, folate, B12 and vitamin D levels now - as these need to be maintained at optimal levels for optimal thyroid hormone conversion ?
