Well saw much awaited Endo...

Hi all,

Sorry to say I saw the Registrar of the Endocrinologist I should of seen today. Had a mask on and didn't speak clearly, did say results I had done privately we're in range! So said I what are the guidelines for 'The Range?' At which point Rabbit in headlights came to mind, didn't answer. So I said evrytime my bloods are done they are well above 1 and the range alter its parameters each time I look back on results? Why? He didn't answer. 5.2 is above what it should be ideally. He also told me that back when I had 2 or 3 nodules growing internally on my thyroid I should of been referred so they could of removed them! Thanks GP for refusing to refer me 3 yrs ago. Also said I should of been medicated years ago when told thyroid was erratic, borderline & low! Now my immune system is going into overdrive killing my thyroid so it's shrunk to only 2cm. He questioned my 125mg of Levo but when I told him I'm a good converter of T4 and unless he gives me T3 on NHS to counterbalance any reduction, he looked worried😂now he's more concerned with High Cortisol levels & Thyroid antibodies, but at least I'm back in 6 months. I wish I'd of joined this site years ago and took the bull by the horns with the Endo Dept. I have learnt so much on here, so thank you for all who've ever replied to posts, or posted fantastic information or shared stories with tips I've picked up🙏🥰

Was he a registrar—or just a junior doctor? My guess is the latter to be honest. On rotation, doing his endocrinology stint. With a bit of luck, you’ve made him think.

Thank you for your reply. Well maybe thats a good thing in hindsight🤣I'd put as much info as I could on the Patient website, otherwise it would I wouldn't of had chance to reel it all off! He only looked at private results when I asked him too!

Thank you for your reply, I believe he was his registrar drafted in as no one could find the main Consultant. It was chaos with roadworks trying to get to the hospital so I think he was stuck in traffic. Very disappointing as my appointment had been brought forward due to lack of staff for appointment on 30th Oct. It was unbelievable how quiet he was and only mumbled reply behind a mask! He definitely had no clue on thyroid, or I shocked him by reeling off info I'd picked up off here! I felt I made an impact on him which was the only positive I drew from the 10 min appointment. He struggled to even find my thyroid🙄only reading on here how bad they can be prepared me. He knows I won't roll over whatever he says in his results letter to GP, who admits he knows very little about thyroid🤷🏻

High antibodies and shrunken thyroid confirms Ord’s thyroiditis

Have you improved low ferritin since last test

Are you on gluten free and/or dairy free diet

No test since the April on, GP said we'll leave it to Endo originally that's why I went private. I had a blood test there and said he would need to do T3 to which he mumbled yes. I did start taking the Ferritin after April's tests. I've also tried Gluten free diet but didn't change anything. Have also tried Dairy Free and my skin was really dry, but I don't have much dairy anyway. I did ask him to confirm the name for my Thyroid issue and he mumbled something resembling yes! Er but no confirmation of Ords then....

Oh well done! Not only did you prove you knew more than him and frighten the poop out of him, you probably have saved a large number of women from his ignorance! He may give up and choose something like feet to specialise in, or he may actually do some reading!

I have a theory that the start the student doctors first lecture with "the thyroid - used to be called cretinism" and that is all the students hear!

Really pleased you were able to put him right - brilliant!

Thank you serenfach, I've been so wound up about going to the first Endo appointment, then stuck in traffic over an hr, so by the time I got there and realised although ' I must see the Dr X consultant' which was rubbish, the registrar picked a bad day😂yup go sweep a corridor as you're not clued up on thyroid at all!

When I first started seeing Endos (over 20 years ago), I went in full of hope. I always came out and sobbed in the car, mostly because I was not used to being talked to like I was thick, but also the lack of help.

I saw one, bow tie and all, who started on the line of are you depressed. I somehow got in that my father was a top surgeon (he was) and had told me it was my thyroid (he had not because he had been dead for years!). The attitude changed immediately and he suggested further tests. Never heard from him again!

I recently had a back and forth with a top endo in Wales, by post, answering all his wrong ideas and theories with links to research that proved him wrong. It ran to 7 pages, and ended with "and I bet you have not read any of the above". He actually phoned me to say "you have a point". I suspect I am on his red "do not contact - be afraid, be very afraid" file!

Not one has ever examined or touched me. All the above is to show you you are not alone, many of us have had the same feelings. I am just wondering what job I can do that pays well, that I dont have to know anything about!

🤣I'd of liked to of been a fly on the wall! Unfortunately there has always been a god complex with Consultants across the board. I briefly worked for the NHSand saw it a lot. They are not used to some of the general public having some nous! I've walked out of a few Consultants offices telling them their attitude is crap! I once went to a Neurologist years ago with what I now know we're thyroid symptoms early 90s, she told me I have nerve pains in arms & legs as I'm leaning my arms other chair and I could do with loosing some weight! Consequently I got up told her she was a very rude woman who clearly had no idea and her qualifications don't allow her to speak so rudely to people! Then walked out. If I had a fiver for every Consultant that told me to loose a bit of weight, or walk a different way (turns out I have a twisted pelvis)or use better gloves (Raynaurds), exercise more( used to do long distance walking and the gym 2hrs a day) I'd be a very rich woman! I'm shut down everytime I question something or ask a question I shouldn't! Sometimes now I enjoy the challenge of it all. Only ever met one world class shoulder surgeonwho was faultlessin attitude and knowledge. In 42yrs that's poor.

When I was a student nurse I did a stint in Outpatients working alongside (I’d say “with” but they don’t let you) some of those gods.

I could tell some stories to make your eyes water and I was only there 4 months.

Oh yes I bet you could! I did nearly 2yrs based over 3 community hospitals, at the one there was a constant rota virus causing the ward to be in lockdown with the elderly, the cause...the Head Geritric Consultant refused to sanitise or wash his hands after each patient examination 😳when spoken to regarding it, his reply was he was too busy to do it and didn't want to be late for his private work!

Oh Yuew😝Yes I can believe it I saw & heard horror stories. It is very grim. I had 2 hospital appointments on Wednesday and was shocked by lack of Dr's, in one hospital there were what we used to call auxiliary nurses lined up against a wall chatting and laughing whilst a couple of higher grade nurses raced around sorting everyone. There are are managers of managers of managers, staff standing around laughing & joking doin nothing, that's where the money in the NHS goes, and too many under qualified Dr's & Consultants feeding people through on a conveyor belt in a patch em up and send off attitude. One registrar kept interrupting my appointment to ask what he should say to a patient!

Oooh I know that one, a politician. And if you have a PhD in lying and BS then you have a clear choice, a doctor or an MP.
