T3 is absolutely NOT a mixture of iodine and selenium.

T3 contains NO selenium.

T3 isn't just a mixture of things - it is a precise structure of atoms into molecules. The exact same atoms assembled differently do not work as T3. This can be seen with the very similar reverse-T3. The only difference is where one of the iodine atoms attaches. Yet it is very different.

Thyroid hormones rely on enzymes for multiple reasons - which contain selenium. We need enough selenium to be able to create new enzyme molecules. That is why selenium is important.

If it was as easy as taking selenium as brazil nuts and something else to get iodine, there would not be anything like the issues we see. (Brazil nuts are not known for iodine content.)

Thank you..I checked a suppliment called T3 and the contents were stated as selenium and iodine...am sure you are correct and it is more complicated as that...would post a pic of that bottle but not finding possibility to post that.

The supplement called T3 is a con.

They name it that to fool us into buying it. Someone reads about "T3" and thinks that supplement is what is talked about.

I have reported adverts for it to the Advertising Standards Authority - and they agreed and got it taken down more than once - but the people behind it just change their name and advertise it again.

(I think you'll find some of their adverts are for "T-3" - a hyphen in the middle. They do that to try to get away with it.)

Maybe complain? It is not unknown for people to get refunds when products are misleadingly described.

Elsabounre,

Selenium should be highest concentrated in the thyroid gland as essential for T4 -T3 conversion and also protects thyroid cells from oxidative damage created by the conversion, but the content of a brazil nut can not be replied upon to address a selenium deficiency.

To create T4 & T3 you also need adequate amounts of iodine but unless deficient it’s not recommended to supplement additional as can elevate thyroid antibodies if not supported by adequate selenium which has been shown to reduce TH-1 cytokine dominance (so reducing thyroid antibodies).

The production and release of thyroid hormone is regulated by a feedback loop system that involves several glands and multiple hormones. If there are issues within any of these hypothyroidism may result. As most hypothyroidism is caused by Hashi supplementing selenium is often seem beneficial to improve thyroid physiology. and many advise a starting dose of 200 mcg to reduce to a maintenance of 100 mcg. This should also help Levo work better when you are eventually prescribed.
