Advice please where do people find best tests f... - Thyroid UK
Advice please where do people find best tests for iron/ferritin tests online?
When just testing Vit D B12 Ferritin and Folate I’ve used the advanced thyroid from either Medichecks or Monitor my Health.
for full iron panel I reply on the GP 🌱
Have never had any luck with getting iron profile via GP, but good to hear you have! My recent one has shown a need for iron, but not capacity, I showed Dr but fairly said he doesn't know what it means. Do you fond if yours is flagged up if a bit out if line, and your GP knows what to suggest please?
GP a bit clueless but if you post iron panel results here then members who truly understand it will reply 🌱
Thanks Regenallotment, yes I did that. They kindly worked out what it meant. Some felt I should take iron anyway, others suggested raising by diet. All a bit of a job when it says you need iron but not the capacity for it! With ferritin at 35 I’m concerned at it going even lower, especially now I’ve managed to get monthly b12 jabs back. Thank you…
Hi...sorry me again...can anyone give advice on which b complex to take? I am very sensitive to many things & have been looking at a couple....one is health leads b complex....bit pricier than some others but no fillers & made in Wales....the other one is igennus b complex, half the price of health leads but has some fillers/bulking agents in....Anyone had good/bad experience with either? Hope this is OK to post here....
No worries 😊
Here is one I made earlier…. These are the B Complexes that have the right versions of the various components but the spreadsheet shows you how much of what is in each one.
Note for some 1 tablet or capsule is a dose, for others it’s 2 so false economy unless you consciously half it .

Having raised levels I can get away with taking my B Complex 2-3 times a week which is a big saving but take separate B12 and folate on the off days. 🌱
Hi, I’m now looking into this too. Haven’t heard of the Welsh one…yes seems Igennus and Thorne often mentioned on here and I’m thinking due to needing 2 ingenue, can start lower and see if it agrees. The doses seem very high in most b complexes don’t they and being someone who usial,y tries one thing at a time, but wary of them. Guess for those of us though, with poor absorption amounts and afford to be higher?
Hi...I just wandered if you had come across this vitamin b complex & what you thought of it? Not sure what I'm looking for in a b complex but I know with allergies it's a bit trial & error.
Thank you for all the recommendations, really appreciate them....sorry for all the questions, I've got that many bottles of vitamins that don't suit it's hard to know which to take. Thank you 😊
I’ve had a look and this is the breakdown of ingredients. It has the right versions of Methyl Folate, Methyl and Adeno B12, P5P B6 that we used as our basis for making the spreadsheet. I’ll add this one ☝️
It has lower Thiamin than any of the others, the rest is pretty much the same apart from choline which is just over double Thorne, and not in the others.
🌱
Thank you that's great will look at this one as less in it to upset things.... hopefully 🤞🙏
Let us know how you get on, how it lasts, what its like to take, whether it seems good value, if. dose is half a teaspoon (2.5ml) then it should be 40 servings for the 100ml bottle. I agree, much fewer fillers, purified water, potassium carbonate and citric acid, it also says calcium though and it looks like a comma might be missing between calcium and methyl folate ... I'd be tempted to ask them about it, what is it, how much of it is there, why is it there etc.
It is not the b complex liquid I checked out , but the I think I did check bottles of B12 only. I think when I checked, because very few drops were needed for a high strength dose, you couldn't possibly finish the bottle in time before it had expired due to opening and using up within a certain time, Check from this perspective before buying. I think this was the case for this company and for epigenetics company?????????
Hi.. I've used Medichecks, Blue Horizon & Monitor My Health. Didn't have a good experience with the latter & found contacting them very slow, took a month to get results & not all of them, but may well have been a one off! They're very reasonable & I like the idea if it being NHS Always used Medichecks for iron panel, but last yr had two attempts with them & 2 with BH & couldn't get results due to haemolysing. Tried again recently with Medichecks & it worked on 2nd attempt, so was pleased about that at last!
I've always found both Medichecks & BH to be fairly similar results if I've had nhs near them, for thyroid, etc.
My ferritin was 36 in June(nhs), had 3 tests, 3 wks consequentially recently with Medichecks(pinpricks(, it was 85, 110, 65, then retested by NHS couple wks later and back to 35! So couldve been jumping about I guess, but makes you realise importance of a full.iron profile to get a full.picture!
I've asked Dr for iron panels in past, but will never do them, but if there's a chance I'd definitely try first f I were you. Take care...
Thanks for your reply...I ordered a monitor my health one earlier & just hope it's OK. Fingers crossed 🤞 will let you know....take care too & thanks for your reply 😊
Thank you, hope it all goes well, you've obv had thyroid results with them so that's positive. Yes, it'll be good to know how you get on & also yr experience with them. Meanwhile we will.dream if a time when all this malarkey is a bit easier & cheaper!
Hi...thanks for your reply. Just wanted to update the very speedy results I had back for my thyroid tests from monitor my health. Sent in post Thurs late morning (test done at 9.30am) & received the report at lunchtime today....here's hoping the iron panel ones are just as swift
only sent off yesterday so no results yet...
Not a good idea to test on a Thursday or Friday …..this probably won’t get processed until Monday
We post regularly to say only test ideally Monday or Tuesday…..Wednesday at a pinch
Full iron panel
retest 3-4 times a year if self supplementing iron.
It’s possible to have low ferritin but high iron
Test early morning, only water to drink between waking and test. Avoid high iron rich dinner night before test
If taking any iron supplements stop 5-7 days before testing
