I have Hypothyroid and am currently trying to recover from surgery and gain weight. I am unable to find a drink to help aid my recovery what does not contain Iodine. Can anyone help with advice. I wish to avoid soy and gluten also. Thank you.

Hi Dottie,

Do you have a liquidiser?

If you are OK with dairy, you could try making your own smoothies with a high protein yogurt like Skyr or Greek yogurt with peanut butter and a banana or something to your taste.

Alternatively there are some protein shakes you can get in the supermarket and some of them are gluten free. You can also buy gluten and soy free protein powder from online sites like MyProtein in various flavours.

good luck with your recovery 🌱

Hi Dottie, Thorne make a high quality amino acid supplement drink with the full spectrum of amino acids which are the building blocks of protein. I think it’s called Thorne Amino Complex, and it comes as a powder that you mix with water, either in Berry flavour or Lemon. No soy or gluten and very few added ingredients, just stevia for taste. I bought some for my mum after she lost a lot of weight and muscle strength in hospital. It’s quite expensive in the Uk but a bit cheaper if you order from iherb.

Thank you I will take a look. The money im saving on food might go some way to being able to afford this. But feel whatever it takes at the moment to get me back on my feet. x
