Covid and Flu Jabs

Sparklingsunshine profile image

I've been having covid and flu jabs for the last few years, I'm over 50. This year though I didnt get an invite from my GP, the rest of my family did ( hubby and two adult sons).

I dont know if they've changed the eligibility criteria or I've just been missed off somehow. Have other people been invited? I think they are starting up in October.

My husband got invited before me last year and I was told it was better for him to be done first to limit the chances of him bringing flu/Covid into the house before I had my jabs.

Why couldn't you just 'be done' at the same time? That sounds like a right load of old flannel!

i think the eligibility criteria for both jabs has changed for autumn 2024.

Yes I've just been to my GP for an unelated matter and I did ask, apparently I can get a flu jab but for some reason am not eligible for covid. I'm still scratching my head to understand why hubby and sons are eligible though. They aren't clinically vulnerable.

I pay for flu jabs as I am not offered to book that one free until November.

Our household has not been offered covid jabs despite my son has previously been offered them as a vulnerable person and the rest of us as same household

Both my husband and I have had the offer for the Covid vaccination. On the text to my husband, it said Covid and flu, but mine only said Covid. However, last year they offered the flu at the vaccination centre. Strangely enough my sister, who is 63, was saying her husband had been sent a text but she hadn't. This was last Tuesday during our weekly phone call. When I finished this call I checked my phone, and this was when the text came in! Hubby gets it because he is over 65 and has had cancer, and I get it because I have a neurological condition, and I'm also fat! One of the criteria is having a BMI over 40. However, my sister is larger than I am, so I am surprised that she hasn't had one yet.

Our surgery has sent out messages on Facebook to say they’re having Flu/Covid19 vaccination clinics on certain dates and times and it will be by appointment only… my husband has these every year but I steer clear of them. But this is the first year neither of us have had an “invitation” and I only found this out from their page on Facebook… so much for “progress” with their shiny new computer system!

I had my email from the surgery last week telling me they had allocated my flu jab and to book an appointment asap. So I booked one for my husband and myself (we are the same age 77) for Saturday next week.

I had heard that the Covid jabs aren’t until November.
