Anyone had any luck with hormonal BC whilst managing their thyroid?

I have had my thyroid managed for years with the help of my dr. She has advised only non hormonal options for BC which I’ve followed for years.

Recently I got a copper IUD placed and had serious issues and had to get it removed. I really want to slightly more protection tho (just had a baby and recovering from a c section so a surprise pregnancy is not wanted at the moment)

Long story short this is making me consider if hormonal options are really as detrimental to thyroid function as my Dr is claiming. (Everytime I bring this up with my GP they roll their eyes and tell me that my dr has given me false information, but no GP has been able to manage my thyroid as well as she has so I’m more inclined to think she has a better understanding.) anyone have any experience with this? Or have access to any research?

Can I ask what issues you had with the copper IUD? Would the Mirena be an option?

I'm no doctor but personally I would want to avoid putting any artificial hormones into my body while my thyroid hormones are all over the place. Any hormonal BC I've tried over the years has been awful for me one way or another. I would rather be sterilised than add anything else to my already hectic hormones.

Saying that I've got the copper IUD at the moment and am considering the Mirena during a scheduled surgery coming up (kill 2 birds with one stone!) because I have horrendously heavy and painful periods since I had the copper coil in/last baby.

Sorry not much help, just my own thoughts on the subject. I would avoid using hormonal BC personally though if I was you, unless there is actual scientific proof that there's some benefit to it regarding thyroid levels.

Copper IUD moved and perforated. Fortunately it was an easy removal but really turned me off from getting another one. If I were to do again, I’d do Mirena. But my dr is also anti mirena as it’s still hormonal but it sounds like it’s less hormonal?
