Recent blood 🩸 results for my partner - Parathyroid issues

Hi everyone 👋

I’ve just been and collected recent blood results from 29th August .

Your thoughts on results would be very much appreciated .

John is experiencing bone pain in his legs / tiredness / fatigue / brain bog - and GP just wants to watch and wait 🙈

I think we may have to look at a private specialist who will take his symptoms seriously .

He is taking 5mg folic acid prescribed by GP and has been on that quite a few months now .

Should I look at getting him better you vitamin D/K spray from Holland and Barrett plus a good B Complex , maybe Thorne or Iggenus brand ?

Thank you x

Warm regards , Kelly

put these results into

vitaminD pro app

or

Calcium pro app

calciumpro.com

This shows it’s “highly likely “ he has hyperparathyroid

He needs referral to parathyroid specialist

Read all about parathyroid here

no thyroid results or ferritin or cholesterol

Previous posts shows low GFR …..suggesting low thyroid levels

B12 on low side which is common as we get older

pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/257...

With serum B12 result below 500, (Or active B12 below 70) recommended to be taking a separate B12 supplement

Once he’s finished prescription folic acid add a separate vitamin B Complex

Then once serum B12 is over 500 (or Active B12 level has reached 70), may be able to reduce then stop the B12 and just carry on with the B Complex.

If Vegetarian or vegan likely to need ongoing separate B12 few times a week

Interesting that in this research B12 below 400 is considered inadequate

And why aiming to keep B12 over 500 recommended

Low folate

supplementing a good quality daily vitamin B complex, one with folate in (not folic acid)

This can help keep all B vitamins in balance and will help improve B12 levels too

Difference between folate and folic acid

Many Hashimoto’s patients have MTHFR gene variation and can have trouble processing folic acid supplements

B vitamins best taken after breakfast

Igennus B complex popular option. Nice small tablets. Most people only find they need one per day. But a few people find it’s not high enough dose

Post discussing different B complex

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu...

Thorne Basic B recommended vitamin B complex that contains folate, but they are large capsules. (You can tip powder out if can’t swallow capsule) Thorne can be difficult to find at reasonable price, should be around £20-£25. iherb.com often have in stock. Or try ebay

IMPORTANT......If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 5-7 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results

endocrinenews.endocrine.org...

In week before blood test, when you stop vitamin B complex, you might want to consider taking a separate folate supplement (eg Jarrow methyl folate 400mcg) and continue separate B12

Hi Kisca,

From personal experience I get bone pain in my legs when my vitamin D is low. Once John's vitamin D levels increase the pain may well lessen.

I'm also being 'monitored' for a possible parathyroid problem; I have lowish vitamin D, high PTH and in range calcium levels. I'm trying to up my vitamin D levels in the hope that my parathyroid levels come down.

Slowdragon's put a lot of useful info in their reply. Other than watch and wait what has the GP said?

Thank you 🙏 so much for taking time to reply much appreciated !

We are going to take a look 👀 at comments / feedback this evening .

We are so confused and have read conflicting articles on supplementing with Vitamin D when Parathyroid is faulty - his levels are low in fact just over adequate .

Did you supplement with Vit D whilst you being investigated for parathyroid issues .

Thank you 🙏

Kelly

Hi Kisca,

Yes I did and still am taking vitamin D as the consultant is monitoring my parathyroid and vitamin D blood levels. But due to my vitamin D being low they're hoping that my parathyroid hormone levels will drop as vitamin D levels increase.

Has your partner been referred to a specialist? Lots of useful information in Slowdragon's reply. What has the GP said about his high PTH? He really needs further investigations/referral.

Hello 👋

GP just wants to watch and watch 🙈

We’re currently looking at private specialist although GP is happy to do referral letter for private .

GP also doing referral on NHS to check circulation in his legs because of his pain but we know it must be parathyroid related !

X
