There should be a range for each of those results. Do you see anything - maybe to the right of where the pic has been cut off - with numbers showing was the range is for that TSH?

Also, are you experiencing any symptoms ?

The meaning of your TSH has a lot of feedback in your past post.

Can you tell us what’s changed since this post?

I was on 175 mg of levothyroxine but I put it back up to 200 mg as I was feeling tired all the time I’ve also noticed that my fingers keep going white at the ends and slow dragon said my iron levels looked low could that be the cause of that thanks x

I know it’s been recommended to get your FT3.

To confirm iron, make sure you get a full iron panel (importantly transferrin saturation percent , but the others as well at the same time).

I don’t think they’ve ever done my ft3 x

You really need an FT3 done at the same time at least as TSH and FT4.

Especially on your high Levo dose and OK ft4.

Regards to iron, hair falling out and fatigue is also a symptom of low FT3. And your ferritin isn’t dire. So to unpack your iron situation you’ll need a full iron panel.

Suggest private testing if you can’t get the NHS to do.

GP will say TSH is too low and will most likely want to reduce your dose levothyroxine

You don’t have to agree to this

On levothyroxine TSH is often low.

Was test done early morning, ideally before 9am, only drinking water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

There’s no Ft3 result

Your low saturation iron result suggests your iron is low

No vitamin D

What’s range on folate

What vitamin supplements are you taking

How much levothyroxine and do you always get same brand levothyroxine at each prescription

Baileyleigh123 profile image
Baileyleigh123 in reply toSlowDragon

I always get the same brand levothyroxine i take a vitamin b complex and I was taking vitamin d but stopped it because it said it could make you have to much calcium in your body , im always tired lately so i did wonder if that could be low iron as my hair was also falling out again im on 200 mg of Levo folate range is 3.00 - 20.00ug /L and the other number is 10.6

Request GP do full iron panel including ferritin

Hair loss often linked to low iron

Never supplement iron without doing full iron panel test for anaemia first and retest 3-4 times a year if self supplementing.

It’s possible to have low ferritin but high iron

Test early morning, only water to drink between waking and test. Avoid high iron rich dinner night before test

If taking any iron supplements stop 5-7 days before testing

ESSENTIAL to test TSH, Ft4 and Ft3 together

Recommended that all thyroid blood tests early morning, ideally just before 9am, only drink water between waking and test and last dose levothyroxine 24 hours before test

This gives highest TSH, lowest FT4 and most consistent results. (Patient to patient tip)

Private tests are available as NHS currently rarely tests Ft3 or all relevant vitamins

Comprehensive list of references for needing LOW TSH on levothyroxine

healthunlocked.com/thyroidu....

onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi...

If symptoms of hypothyroidism persist despite normalisation of TSH, the dose of levothyroxine can be titrated further to place the TSH in the lower part of the reference range or even slightly below (i.e., TSH: 0.1–2.0 mU/L), but avoiding TSH < 0.1 mU/L. Use of alternate day dosing of different levothyroxine strengths may be needed to achieve this (e.g., 100 mcg for 4 days; 125 mcg for 3 days weekly).

If GP says " I have to reduce your dose because the guidelines say i can't let you have a below range TSH" .....

The first paragraph in the NICE (NHS) Thyroid Disease, Assessment and Management guidelines says :

nice.org.uk/guidance/ng145

"Your responsibility

The recommendations in this guideline represent the view of NICE, arrived at after careful consideration of the evidence available. When exercising their judgement, professionals and practitioners are expected to take this guideline fully into account, alongside the individual needs, preferences and values of their patients or the people using their service. It is not mandatory to apply the recommendations, and the guideline does not override the responsibility to make decisions appropriate to the circumstances of the individual, in consultation with them and their families and carers or guardian. "

High Cholesterol suggests your Ft3 is low - improving low vitamin levels to improve conversion of Ft4 (levothyroxine) to Ft3 is first step

And then retest in another 2-3 months

get full iron panel test

Test vitamin D

Folate and B12 are good as you take a vitamin b complex

Remember

IMPORTANT......If you are taking vitamin B complex, or any supplements containing biotin, remember to stop these 5-7 days before ALL BLOOD TESTS , as biotin can falsely affect test results

endo.confex.com/endo/2016en...

endocrinenews.endocrine.org...

In week before blood test, when you stop vitamin B complex, you might want to consider taking a separate folate supplement (eg Jarrow methyl folate 400mcg)
